as someone in the food industry, other than slaving away for someone else food trucks are a great way to get your own business running and a real option to get yourself out there and established, hipsters or not in a world where more people want to control their future and own careers its much less risky than trying to open a restaurant, especially in vancouver

Took a walk in SEFC area today, found out the followings:

The Residences at West expects to finish 2014 Sep. There will be Day Care Centre for public on the 6th floor with a huge playground area.

The sale centre of OPSAL will be tear down in two weeks, so they have reduced their sale prices(and still negotiable). They're restoring the large building beside the residential building and it has temporary leased to a restaurant company. Expected to be completed around 2014 Feb/March.

Meccanica is expected to be done around 2014 November.

One of the OMNI reps said Block 100 will be on the Burger King location. Completion will be around 2016.

I heard Concord Pacific bought the place beside the west tower of WCFC, but part of it will be a park extend from the seawall.

There's a render / model pic eariler in the thread. It's proposed to be a curved building.

The curve also has no relationship to the angles of the streets, either, and from the perspective driving east on West 2nd
would be more of a visual barrier than the angled building.
It also chops the top off one of the taller "feature buildings" and gives us a building height consistent with
the tabletop of the other buildings in SEFC.
It looks like Concord Pacific tranferring its "Colours" project to the site.

Blenz will be opening in the Pinnacle retail space @ 2nd/Manitoba. JJ Bear will be located in Wall Centre in another corner location (1st/Ontario).

JJ Bear sounds intriguing, but it's my understanding that JJ Bean will be at 1st & Columbia, opposite Hinge Park.

Was up on a friends roof in Strathcona last night. The view was incredible.

Full-res, un-cropped.

Here's a full panorama (8640x1971)

Wall Centre False Creek Theatre

I went down 1st Ave last night and got this shot of the theatre at WCFC. The blue lines are reflections, by the way.

It's quite different from the renderings they have on their site at the moment.

These shots are mostly from yesterday afternoon, with a couple from last weekend.

Crane installation at The One (I believe they were installing the second crane).

The Residences at West, which is now well above-ground on the east-side of the project.

Here's Meccanica

Lastly, Wall Centre False Creek.

These first four shots were from last week-end

Full-res panorama

From yesterday

South Creek Landing on Friday. This cute little guy is all topped out, but the funky balcony edges that will give the building its character are still to come:

Not correct. That will be the future home of Burrard Acura.

---

Visited the Food Cart Festival today. Great concept, but definitely the execution leaves something to be desired. Definitely in need of a beer garden of some sort, the lineups really are too long and the area chosen is really too torn up. I also think this would be better as an evening event. Ended up not getting anything because waiting a half hour to hit one truck is not overly appealing especially given how hot the area is with the combined heat radiating from the cement and the trucks. Ended up strolling over to tap and barrel for some overpriced drinks and appies
