Tommorow you should do the Waterfront walk and see The District Condos, Brick's Furniture, Sky phase 2, the Boutique Hotel, H2O, and Youcube phase 2 all under construction/renovation.
can we safely say in 5 years are downtown will be completely changed.. with so much activity going on, atleast 6 new towers goin up in the next 3 years alone... mass renovation and expansion to existing bldgs... our downtown might almost feel like a downtown now.
went for a 45 min. walk at lunch. passed site work at portage & main, Alt Hotel going up, stumbled across 48 unit apartment starting construction, visited a bustling show suite for Glasshouse and check out a tent for tomorrow's announcement of a new grand scale condo development....then stopped at Parlour to hear someone I know talking about a new 20 storey condo development in a VERY nice spot that he is working on.

Come on now, Winnipeg has changed a lot. It could be a 48 storey, 48 unit building....you know, one unit per floor. It just wouldn't be affordable....for anyone.

forget 48 storeys, I'll be more then happy with that 20 storey condo TV mentioned if it's well designed and in a good location.
i'd also like to see more 6-12 storey rental apartments pop up downtown.. is it too difficult to make it work financially or are most property owners/developers willing to wait and hope to make more money off condos?
Nice to see activity in the Peg heating up to a point where it can be "felt"...I was hanging with my friend chrisallard before I headed out to Calgary early May and we were like two little kids who had just met Batman or something, it is truly awesome when all this development is happening around you
I am mostly excited to see all these new people added downtown...and hopefully its only the start of a trend.
Its crazy to think, reading even as recent as 4 years ago when the topic of more people downtown seemed like a pointless debate because it was a stretch to happen in 10 years; now look at Winnipeg beginning to transform into what hopefully is the beginning of true downtown vibrancy.
Then I think of what may be on the horizon - if all these condo projects are successful and draw more people and more word of mouth to a vibrant downtown Winnipeg, what further condo projects could be in store...who knows maybe offices will follow suit, and bolder mixed use developments could take place in areas such as parcel 4

I agree...I would take three 6 storey buildings over one 18 storey building in the downtown.

I am totally using the name of a deceased architect if I ever write a letter to complain about architecture in my city. I've written letters to the editor before and no, they don't check. As long as the address and phone number are plausible, and the name isn't obviously fake, you can use any name you want.
