Well, no. Far from indisputable. That's the official Vancouver downtown plus the West End added which BIMBAM lumped together since he felt that makes the most sense (making an unoffical/logical measure of downtown Vancouver), compared to the official downtown Toronto numbers which no one added anything to or subtracted anything from to make more logical. If one were to take the logical step of comparing Vancouver peninsula's 2.236 sq. miles to downtown Toronto's densest 2.236 sq. miles, then the results would be quite different as the official 4.5 sq mile downtown Toronto contains significant areas dominated by lower density lowrise and townhouses.

Until someone makes such a comparison, then proclaiming downtown Vancouver to have density "unmatched in Canada" is a bit premature.

He seems more interested in cherry picking data to prove he's right than being objective or admitting his initial claim was erroneous. Some people would rather go down with the ship than admit they were wrong.

You admit in your own post that the West End should be included in DT Vancouver population figures. How am I cherry picking?

i would even say that the buildings in downtown calgary are closer together and much denser. bigger too.

The last couple pages of posts highlight why I really dislike the Canada forum these days. Everything, and I mean everything, turns in to some sort of pissing match.
It didn't used to be this bad.

Let's get everyone proud about something that is irrelevant to other cities. How about Toronto has the best skyline for a city over 2 million on a lake in all Canada, Vancouver the best skyline for a city over a million on an ocean, Montreal the best over a million on an island in a river not near the ocean, etc?

Urban development is not homogeneous across a single country, let alone a whole continent. Europe is not Paris.

but even smaller and less-dense-overall european cities like belgrade or zurich give off a feeling of substantial residential density in their cores.

Both Toronto and Vancouver have very dense, vibrant and wonderful downtowns. Who cares if one has ## thousand more people per square km.

I realize some liberties have been taken with the original photo, but I think they're artistic liberties that have legitimate substance. I like the dream like qualities these effects have. Maybe a city in alternate universe. IMO photos like these should be given just as much consideration as any of these other more accurate, but less bold looking photos.
