I'm not having problems, other than the inability to post those 2 images. They wouldn't post normally, so I did a screen shot and posted them that way.

By the way, I totally LOVE that idea for Granary Row with the shipping containers. I LOVE shipping containers used as buildings. I would love to build a shipping container house.

Historic 1983 flood approaches 30-year anniversary

SALT LAKE CITY — Memorial Day weekend marks the 30th anniversary of a massive flood that turned State Street in downtown Salt Lake City into a river.

The 1981–1982 water year had broken records, and officials had been concerned since at least Sept. 1982 that come May, there would be more water than the city could handle.

There were mudslides in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons in fall 1982, and flooding creeks damaged 300 homes, roads and bridges. Gov. Scott Matheson declared a state of emergency but was denied federal aid

Were you there doing the flooding? I was alive, but was only 3 and wasn't living in Utah yet.

Yes, I was there during the flooding. We drove past and watched a guy kayak down state street and lots of other people trying to fish in it.

I was nine, because I'm super effing old. I remember helping fill sandbags, and my dad took us down to State Street, saw some people fishing, etc. crazy times.

The Lotus Apartments, across from Cathedral of the Madeleine, appear to now be occupied even though they are still working on the landscaping. Trellis was being put up as I took these shots. Wonder when Salt Lake will get our first example of the uber-trendy vertical gardens?

I was alive and living in bountiful but I was only 2 months old. I was brought home from the hospital on easter sunday and there was still a ton of snow on the ground (so I'm told). my mom tells stories about trying to carry me across a flooded Main Street.

FYI there is a base to a tower crane on the Boyer 101 site for their 7-story office building. These guys are moving very fast with this development and have almost caught up to the LaPorte project on State Street that have been going on for about a year now and not much to show so far. I swear there's one person working on that project.

All this talk about LDS temples, has me thinking about when the LDS church is going to build their new church on the old Alta Club parking lot on South Temple. Has anyone heard anything new? I really hope the design will be an urban one like:

Given the location, I think it will be urban with hidden parking. I hope the height matches that of its neighbors (old Elks Lodge to the west and Brigham Apartments to the east).

The meetinghouse, which holds 4 chapels and housing for area authorities, is in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

The design draws inspiration from the church's original meetinghouse in Hong Kong:

Speaking of broadway park lofts, some please correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that all work on that has stopped again. Nothing has changed and no crew has been there for several weeks as far as I've seen.

May 13th, Utah Air National Guard Opens $8-Million Fire Station

(KUTV) The Utah Air National Guard opened its new $8-million fire station near the Salt Lake International Airport.

Airmen cut the ribbon for the huge facility early Monday morning.

The new building will house a fire protection ops center, 3 large fire emergency trucks, an explosive disposal ops center, and a large state-of-the-art fitness center.

The Utah Air National Guard is ready to open its new $8 million fire station at the base in Salt Lake City.

Guard leaders held a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday at the base next to Salt Lake City International Airport.

Capt. Chris Foote says the new 21,000-square-foot facility will house the fire-protection operations center with bays for three large fire-emergency response vehicles.

It also will be the new home for the Emergency Operations Center, Explosive Ordnance Disposal operations center and an 8,700-square-foot mobility processing center. There’s also a 3,300-square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center.

Does anyone know why all of the large trees along south temple in front of temple square are being cut down... It makes it looks hideous and barren.

They have got them cut down on half of the block... I hope that is all they are doing... It doesn't look good at all.

So, while Salt Lake desperately needs a CCH, we get two smaller hotels announcing in downtown. Though I am unfamiliar with Denver's current hotel needs, they just announced this:

No, they are still there working on them. I live in the back building and every morning they wake me up with their banging on metal.

But it is going slowly.

Last week they poured the concrete second floors for some of the 1st level units. It seems like they also install about one window pane a week. They were also doing something on the east side of the building all last week. I don't know what it was, but they had the driveway on that side of the building blocked off for about four days.

Recently, they've also framed all the rooftop accesses for the top floor units.

I really wish they would go faster though; the entire place is kind of a mess while they're working.
