Fingers crossed that it's awesome, Winnipeg.

Edmonton's proposals lately have been so nice. Simple, pretty, often elegant. Lovely way to grow and fill in.

Corner of Graham Ave and Garry St, podium base tenants are not yet disclosed - a grocery store is proposed as well a large parkade, approx 250 condominium apartments in the first, taller tower, undetermined amount in the second tower pending leasing. Architect is Raw Design (Toronto).

They are doing foundation/caisson testing. Even though it isn't site prep yet it apparently all but assured it will proceed. So by fall it is likely we will have 4 buildings 25+ storeys started downtown. That is a nice boom by Winnipeg standards.

That is a very nice boom by any city under 1 million people's standards! It's my understanding that the Westin will be close to the traditional "core" where Richardson and 201 Portage is? That will add some nice new density to the primary core

Work has began this week for the new $127-million Shriners Hospital in Montreal, which will be attached to the new McGill hospital.

In the 1980s many people wrote Winnipeg off so now that it's roaring back it couldn't be any sweeter. This city's going to break the 1 million barrier in the next 20 years at the rate it's going. It's nice to see the whole West rising rather than just Alberta.

4 x 25 storey buildings is indeed a nice amount of action. That's more tall high-rise action at one time than Winnipeg saw in the last 20 years.

A well known architect recently lamented that Calgary didn't have enough 'feminine' buildings, but a new proposal has come out that will change that..............

On a serious note, there is a new, soon to be released proposal for Calgary that will raise the bar. A rendering should be out soon.

Lipstick aside, that is a really nice height for the Calgary skyline. It kind of puts the pinnacle or peak back to the skyline that has grown to overtake the once tall Petro-Can Tower (forget what they are called now, Suncor??). It would also reduce some of the skyline swallowing girth of the Bow.

I know i will get hated for this, but secretly i don't like the Bow, or more so it's size. It is a beautiful building it is just that i feel it's overwhelming size makes the Calgary skyline look smaller. It might have looked better in a more central location buts it's prominent location makes it stand out too much for my taste. A thousand footer would go a long way to restoring the illusion of height.....i know the skyline is already tall at over 700 ft.

Rumours are spreading fast and furious about a whole schwack of new projects in Calgary. Of note are a potentially new tallest 72 story building (very vague at this point), and a potential new Bjarke Ingels tower. Also there is a 7 tower urban village, a 2 tower development that supposedly has some similarities to one of the Theatre Block towers in TO and many more. If even half of these come true this will be a development cycle like the one we saw in 06-07. Crazy!!!

EDIT: I see Surreal and Wooster alluded to one of them already.

Yeah it is called Suncor Energy Centre, I work in the East Tower. I totally understand your feelings about The Bow, but I do like it, and from certain angles it actually compliments the skyline, most notably viewing from directly east of DT. But the more traditional view looking south from the north, it does kindof make the skyline look a bit anti-climactic, especially in the east end.

There are two more in the mix that look really interesting. One is a tall slender tower which looks good from what I've been told, it's loosely known as the Manulife project. and another one that is taller than the Bow....not sure if it's taller than 225-6th ave, but definitely taller than the Bow. There are completed designs for both of those.

Interesting. I seem to recall word of the Manulife tower awhile back. Hopefully the other one that's taller than the Bow goes all out for new tallest. This whole beat the last tallest by 30' thing is lame. Our skyline is starting to plateau.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this potential taller 'than the Bow' proposal wouldn't be much taller, and might only be taller because of a spire. Taller by 30' might be about right.

A spire would be fantastic news. That's one thing that Calgary's skyline is really lacking. A couple spires on a skyline really create a metropolitan feel.

the 72 storey rumor would be only slightly taller than the bow? or is this something else you are talking about....
