I really liked Steinbach. It's a very good looking, tidy, prosperous looking town.

Indeed. I always say "it is good to be a bank" but, in Steinbach, it looks like "it is good to be a credit union" too!

Beautiful building. Lethbridge is close to 100,000 and we've got nothing like this. Kudos to Steinbach.

Manitoba has a lot of very beautiful, well-kept towns. Steinbach is the largest - but I really, really enjoyed Morden (especially), Altona, and places like that as well.

Apparently Dauphin and Beausejour are also very nice. Unfortunately, I've never been to Manitoba.

It seems they want to emulate the Maison Radio-Canada in Montreal, which unfortuntely isn't a good thing: a lot of surface parking!!

I just found out that tower 2's 2-floor height increase meant that tower 3 was cancelled and replaced with the 4-storey town houses as a trade off. The announcement that tower 3 is back and almost twice the height, while tower 2 is keeping it's 2-floor height increase, isn't going well with the neighborhood and there is some major NIMBYism going on. Hopefully the developer's new plans to bring back tower 3 at doubled the height can get approved.


Just to sum up how the plans have changed since the first official plan:

First Plan:
- 3 towers - 9, 9, & 9 Floors

Second Plan:
- 2 Towers - 9 & 11 Floors
- 1 row of townhouses - 4 Floors

Third & Current Plan:
- 3 Towers - 9, 11, & 17 Floors

Beausejour is a wonderful town - very dense main street. Only has about 2,000 (EDIT: 3,100) people but easily compares to a town of 15,000-20,000 in Atlantic Canada in terms of its amenities.

Nice setting - great sunrises/sunsets, a good walking trail nearby, man-made lake in the middle of its newest subdivision, etc.

But its architecture is not attractive at all. It looks like a shanty town that won the lottery, really. Still an easy place worth visiting, though. And the people are VERY welcoming.

And the fast food is fried in ACTUAL LARD. You will never taste anything so guiltily delicious.

Never got to Dauphin that I remember, so I can't comment.
