The Winnipeg hosted Grey Cup will be fall 2015, looking at that list of events makes it clear.

The rational is simple -- put up the temporary seating in time for the World Cup games and leave it up until after the NHL game, using it for all three events and likely some of the late season Bomber games.

Also, the "Winter Classic" is a US Broadcast tv event played on New Year's Day which we are unlikely to get, we will end up with a similar event called the Heritage Classic. With the new model of having six outdoor games next yet the timing is more flexible suggesting an early December game could be possible, maybe even a week after the Grey Cup.

It will be interesting to see how the temporary stands are added to IGF since the use of temporary stands was part of the facility design and could hint at a future possible permanent expansion.

My friend was telling me just last night how he recently talked to Sabino at a party & that Sabino was saying that he's investing in some amazing new highrise downtown. I guess it was probably the Fortress project that he was talking about.

I'm impressed. The CanadInns HSC reminds me a bit of the newer hotels you often see outside the historic centres of European cities - still very urban in character despite not being in the urban core, with strong vertical proportions and attractive modern design elements.

Hotel design in this city is changing for the better across the board. The new hotel on Waterfront Drive, the Alt Hotel, the Grand Hotel at the airport and the new CanadInns locations are raising the bar. For too long it seemed like the only new hotels that went up in this city were of the three-storey, wood-frame variety.

CPR left the building about a month ago.

I remember a few years back reading about the Holiday Inn on Portage and Balmoral turning into student residency for the U of W. Do you know whatever happened to that idea?

What kind of equipment? Excavators, loaders, etc?

Maybe some underground work. Or test pits based on the boreholes done a couple months back. But a trailer on site leads me to believe its some type of construction. But can't be full blown construction since no announcements been made.
