From what I've read, sounds like a combination project..some office + residential possibly = a tallest structure but not in the office space sense.

No where officially has the words "office tower" been spoken (actually i have never heard it referred to as an office tower). This is a mixed use parkade, podium for commercial and office space and residential condominium tower.

Glass House has approx 195 units over 21 floors. I was told Fortress will have approximately 250 units. If you do the math 195 units over 21 floors = approx 10/floor. 10/floor x 250 gives you approx 25 floors. If you add in a 5 storey podium (30) some amenity and mechanical space (35) and possibly a crown why couldn't it be the tallest. It also depends on the floor plates as well. Things change however while developing so who knows, we will have to wait and see.

Quite possible. It also seems possible that were mixing info from 2 different iterations of this project. Sounds like they came here with 80 million dollars and 1 idea, and were now looking at a totally different idea.

Just going to haft to wait to see what they haft to say!

I definitely think this is the case...people think tower and downtown and it is referred to as an office tower.....same thing with the hotel at portage and main...it was referred to as a 27 storey office tower in the WFP.

There's so much smoke being pumped out over this proposal. Selective leaks and tweets. Not that I know, but you have to wonder whether super salesman Brad Lamb, the so-called condo king from Toronto, has a role in the hype, given his well-known ties to Fortress. It's worth noting that he was in Winnipeg two years ago speaking about the downtown's potential. But maybe you need someone like that to push this boat off the dock.

And I just want to add. With all of these projects going on downtown, I think were starting to see that legendary "critical mass" build up. Hopefully this starts a snowball effect and we see more empty lots filled up!

man oh man d condos, glasshouse, fortress developments, alt hotel, convention center expansion, so/po project along with the already developed chrm and mb hyrdro hq are going to modernize are dt like never before... krazy
heritage landing should be nice addition as well

not to mention we still don't know how the wag expansion will turn out which should be nice, and u of w is always expanding the fieldhouse should look decent driving down portage imo. All these project just need to get off the ground.. and we would have about 15 cranes dt right now..

haha i was at that Brad Lamb event, he made all his observations off of a 20 minute drive around downtown (which he even stated), he never even took steps downtown. I respect Lamb in the fact that he has built an empire but that event was a joke and i feel sorry for anyone who paid for it (i got a free ticket), so i doubt lamb has serious interest in winnipeg (i could be wrong).

ya the guy who is the head of fortress has inlaws in steinbach and regularly comes through winnipeg so he knows his stuff. He's definitely not naive and knows what challenges face dt and the city. He wants to leave a mark in this province.. something that will change the way wpg downtown is viewed.. a building that is iconic and modernized like nothing else in peg. What other province can u create a skyscraper that stands out above any others but mb. once this thing gets approved and off the ground you will notice the domino effect..

2014 - 2015 we will have critical masses in peg who will notice this change and revitalization

chrm opens - 2014
assinaboine park expansion opens 2014

among other events that should give peg the national stage for bit.

Actually, it's Lamb's involvement with Fortress that makes me cautious in my optimism for this project. In any event, I hope we have a concrete announcement to dissect at the end of May (or in 3 weeks, or whenever we are tweeted additional information about the project...).

this guy is a legit developer he woiuldnt be hinting at 🞵🞵🞵🞵 and building this hype if it wasnt happening his reputation is on the line.. You people make me laugh. he wouldnt venture into a market he knew nothing about without first doing his homework.. this 🞵🞵🞵🞵 has been in the works for over a year..

and lamb has never been mentioned in any articles quit speculating...

it says jawad has inlaws in steinbach regularly travels to winnipeg.. and knows what winnipeg needs.. hes hinted at security, ammenties. grocery right at your door steps.. hes not a fool he knows winnipeg better than most out of town developers.

I would be concerned to from the guy who told a packed room that "we should not convert or preserve heritage buildings because they are to costly and dont have a market, but rather construct new"

yeah, Lamb works with several developers with Fortress being one of them, but there has been no mention of him being involved so far... given how much they've been hyping the project without mentioning him (which would definitely increase the hype) I doubt he is involved.

Seems about right. Like others have said, so far no mention of Lamb being specifically involved in this project, other than being listed as a partner on the Fortress website. Jawad Rathore has a bit of a checkered past (try googling his name). This, the media hype, and the lack of specific details makes me cautious about the project. And no, I don't put much stock into the fact that Jawad Rathore has in-laws in Steinbach.
