He just said it was a true live/work/play complex that has a number of options that they are exploring and one of them may be a new tallest building. Would not give a location.

From the Article Above ...yes....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And one thing that is certain, there will be a grocery store, Rathore said.
'We want to create an iconic building that becomes part of the Winnipeg skyline, something that you could put on a postcard.'—Jawad Rathore
I am cautiously following this Fortress discussion. It sure sounds exciting, but is there any concern the Winnipeg project might falter, as a similar 70 million dollar Fortress development in Regina apparently has? I'm not entirely familiar with the Regina situation, but it seems folks have lost hope that it will ever get built. I hope this is not the case in Winnipeg, but I wondered what you guys thought?
Awesome news but....how "iconic" get you get for 80 million? Unless that's the name Fortress is giving the project.
80 million does sound pretty cheap.. I'm expecting the cost will jump quite a bit. Maybe initially they were planning a much smaller development and since than have changed their mind and are going with something a lot bigger and more costly.
because it sounds like whatever they build they want it stand out in the winnipeg skyline. So well see how it goes..
i mean the face of downtown will change substantially once this project along with convention center and so po are built. And i really hope that hotel at portage and main goes through as well. Assinaboine ave will look a lot better soon too with d condos and heritage landing. itll be a nice contrasst from the high rises in osborne villlage.
I am also cautiously optimistic regarding a development that so far is simply a bunch of twitter teases and the like.
I'll feel better about it once some shovels are in the ground.
Stuff like "it will be the tallest" "it will have a grocery store" "it will be iconic"... I mean they are saying all the right things, but to me it just seems a little used-car-salesmen-y at this point.
Not sure what Jawad said in the interview, but there's rumors on here about the budget being boosted to $150M+. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.
Also I don't think this project will falter like Capital Pointe in Regina. The local developer is the issue on that one. Sucked money from local residents and sat on it, from what I can tell. This one sounds like a go!
Yes correct, on the 150+ million mark, there have been several articles reg: the expenditure has been upped to that mark...This is a go..only waiting on an announcement....I understand the PR machine is hard at work...but they've said "many things " to make this a landmark building from the countless articles/tweets etc...They want a wow factor for thier 1st project in Winnipeg.. Being a winnipeger is a cautiously optimistic job, we're sometimes so used to settling for 1/2 of what we expected..This will be what's advertised..imo..
Like it...reminds me of a cottage I went to on a lake in MB... coincidence it's on River Ave?.. Is this development a little east of the Oz project?
Was this not initially 22 storeys. in and about ? If they moved it from the parking lot podium, which was I believe 5 storeys wouldn't it mean Glass House alone( as pic illustrates as stand alone) still being 20 storeys... still a good height for condos on the north side of portage.
its going to be 21 storiess according to the site
and have a 15 ft high residential lobby
and each loft will be 9 ft high
and the 21st floor will have a gourmet kitchen and bar with lounge seating around 2 fire pits
so if you do the math the tower will be 70 meters tall which will make it about 10 meters shorter than alt hotel and 12 meters shorter than raddison hotel
which is still decent i guess
d condos will have 9 ft and 10 ft story suites and a 2 story lobby..
the condos will be 24 storys so im assuming d condos will be close to 80 meters. herritedge landing is about 86 meters..
The CEO of fortress, Jawad Rathore seems pretty confident about this, the article with his comments sounds pretty positive. Maybe he's just givin wpg. the shaft and nothin will be announced in 3 weeks? Could happen right?..But this is a different discussion from Capital Point in Sask? Can you comment on what he's said from the link provided?
The tower itself is basically the same height, 21 or 22 storeys. Previously it would have been perched on top of the parkade, which is 5 storeys. So make it 26 or 27 storeys total.
But a "storey" changes with building type. 1 storey of parkade would be a different height than 1 storey of residential. Like someone else posted, 55 Nassau is close to 40 storeys. Yet not the tallest building in Winnipeg.
