Well, its their money, and it stimulates the construction industry so... go for it.

The article says the restaurant will seat the same number but the patio will go from 75 to 100 people. Seems a bit extreme to tear down the building for an extra 25 patio seats

thier obviously going to completely change the whole design of the building... maybe itll look a lot more appealing than whats there now. I mean the old building looks cheap and old... they obviously want a more modern looking design for one of thier most succesful locations in canada.. Im sure for 7 million its going to be a pretty spectacular looking restaurant.

Keg renovations at Portage/Moray were $2-3 million and it turned out extremely nice! Lets see what Earls does with theirs anew!

Anyone know if the old Union Bank Tower is still getting a good sandblasting and exterior cleanup? Looks like they did a good job of the stone on the lower two floors, but the rest of the brick looks as tired as ever. And there's kind of half a "royal bank" sign on the south side.

Is it necessarily going to be the tallest? 55 Nassau has almost 40 floors, if I'm not mistaken, but it's not as tall as the buildings at P&M. If this one has a large residential component, it could come up shorter (I assume residential units must have a lower ceiling height?).

It is being labelled as the tallest, so it will be the tallest.

if u look closly theres signs of work being done to the exterior its only recently become warm enough to do the work on it

On a related note... what happened to the green awnings over the south facing windows?

I thought they looked good and would probably make the rooms a bit cooler in the summer months.

The exterior will get a full cleaning.

From what I've heard they are moving the patio, which is why they want to take down the whole building. Summer is their busy time and the patio was both too small and too noise with the traffic on Main.

Let's just hope it does something to help their service time. I have never been there in the evening when it doesn't take more than 45 minutes from seating to food service.
