Awesome!

Looks like a intresting day for spotters at YEG today. A few odd birds going through. The AN-124, Air Inuit 737-200 later on, and a Ameristar cargo DC-9 freighter this evening.

Does anyone know what is being developed on the southwest corner of airport road and Hwy 2?

I believe that is the YEG Business Park? I also noticed today on the way south on QEII that Cameron is advertising their new subdivision called something like Calvanaugh...spell is wrong but anyone but information on that? Just South of Where Gateway Toyota, Infiniti, and the Fountain Tire business park area is.

United update.

YEG-IAH is a smorgasbord of aircraft over the summer period.
Depending on the month and or day it can be 737-700/800/900 or a A319 or A320. Looks like it takes a break in July and August down to 1 daily for that time before bouncing back to two daily flights in September. Also I expect a strong chance of seeing a third daily flight on this route next fall/winter or larger aircraft deployed, as loads take a strong surge in the fall/winter on this route. UA changes things up very last minute so nothing is set in stone.

YEG-DEN mainline flight now showing A320 on certain days and A319 on other days. Aswell its a mix of CRJ-200 and CRJ-700 complementing the mainline flight. (Small seat increase)

In total three daily nonstops to DEN this summer.

Can you explain to me why a foreign airline is able to provide service to Edmonton and be successful while our domestic airlines have no desire?

Is AC codesharing on the United IAH flights?

Yes but that doesn't mean much. AC doesn't provide any of the staff, metal, costs or risk for that matter associated with these flights. Why can't AC provide YEG with their own product rather than riding on United's coattails? Ah yes, the old hub and spoke argument, yawn, doesn't change the fact that AC provides us with one measly flight a day that leaves Canada (zero to the US).

Whenever I use these flights I book them from directly from United so AC gets zero (or much less) money than if I booked it via AC.

Why do people continually go on and on about which carrier offers which flights. Who cares, at least we have the flights. Be happy. If KLM flew YEG-AMS would anyone be mad about it? I doubt it. When Mexicana flew YEG-MEX did anyone complain that AC or WS didn't fly the route? Nope.

Hilman same old story from you. Take out AC and place WS in any of your AC bashing quotes as WestJet doesn't do anything different than AC does except at a smaller scale because they are overall a smaller carrier at this point. If you look at some of the traveller reviews online, WS quality is going down so stop with your same old arguments. I guess when you fly to Amsterdam, make sure you book directly through KLM so WS doesn't get any of your money to connect through Calgary, Vancouver or Toronto.

Amen^

United is treating us amazing. Sounds and looks like the EWR flight is doing well.

IAH going down to 1x daily is supported nicely by DEN going to mainline at 3pm from YEG.

With AA bringing on new 320/21's maybe Edmonton has a better chance at gaining at DFW route.

Fingers crossed still for IcelandAir.

I'm still wondering what WestJet is going to be doing with the increase of 737's. Sure they added DFW from YYC and some flights from YYZ, but there seems to be a some free jets coming late this summer with the introduction of Encore and new 737's coming into the system. I do understand that some of the 737's that are currently in their fleet are at the end of their leases, but from what I gather they (WS) continue to add 737's not decrease. Maybe some more transborder flights from them. As they become more of a player in the business market the transborder routes are going to be very important.

Same old story from you too, always gotta stand up for AC. How was their last quarter by the way? Oh ya, they lost a ton of money and have almost $4 billion in debt. Shouldn't be too long until they come running for another public handout, meanwhile WJ has had 30+ quarters in a row of profitability. But don't let facts get in your way

At least WJ offers us some routes that actually leave the country with 10+ international routes among numerous Canadian routes that AC can't seem to provide. Yes AC, I want to fly through Vancouver to get to Kelowna

For the record, I am not just a WJ fan but a fan of any company that supports YEG and gives us non stop routes that a thriving city of 1.2+ million people deserve (so I guess I'm a fan of everyone but AC lol).

I am pleased with United service in Edmonton and am booking directly with them not Air Canada. I could care less about AC metal on any route - I just want non-stop service.

I want the best service for Edmonton as well but if a foreign carrier is providing it what does that say about the priorities of Canadian Airlines?

What does it say about Air Canada's assertion that there is not enough traffic to warrant a flight? Sure seems like United has no problems running these routes with decent loads.

yes yes yes I am fully aware of the hub and spoke model but at least United is providing us with great service irrespective or that and I will support them as best as possible for doing the right thing.

United is notorious for frequently adjusting capacity on routes. Perhaps the most of any North American carrier.

You could also argue that UA is cutting the ORD route from 3 daily last summer to 2 this summer to "support" the new EWR route.

IAH returns to double daily on 14 Aug after dropping to 1 from 6 June.

EWR was going to be daily, however this has been cut back to its original planned schedule of 6 weekly.

DEN mainline also was going to be daily but this too has been cut to 6 weekly.

Frequencies are the same as last summer but more increased mainline flying is bringing an overall capacity increase by UA.

And lets not forget SFO is 2xdaily for the summer on CRJ-700's

Yup... sorry was just highlighting changes. SFO is the one UA route with no changes from last summer... frequency and equip exactly the same.

See, it works both ways.
