Many places I have visited, I really had to struggle to find a good view point. Calgary just has them all over the place and they are fully accessible to the public. Plus, when you see photos of the Calgary skyline, it is always from a different angle. I like how they kept all of these view point accessible to all instead of building homes right to the edge of the hill.

Try to find a good place to photograph the Minneapolis skyline. I tried when I was there and it seemed like all of the view points were sold off to people.
Regina, hard to find a great View
Winnipeg, LIKE OMG. So hard to find a good one.
Montreal, the photos are either form the water or mount royal
Toronto............hmmmmmmm.........It is always from the same water view or from a high rise.

It is just because ALL of the land around Calgary's downtown is higher than downtown. You go uphill from downtown in all four directions.

Los angeles has quite a few viewpoints as they are in a valley as well.

I cant speak of many other cities out east, havent been to any of them except Toronto.

I was in Toronto today for an interview on the top floor of Simpson Tower and grabbed some quick pictures from their boardroom.

Unfortunately it was an awful time to take pictures so the quality is sub-par to say the least. Hopefully I get the job so I can get some better ones as well as some shots facing north and west.

Some of these shots show off just how great the glass on Bay-Adelaide is. When it catches the light in the right way it has that amazing silvery blue colour that I think is my favourite in the city.

Honestly, I was thinking they could make the next Robocop there, or the next Matrix, or Minority Report, or whatever. Bladerunner, it still needs a bit more bulk, but it has the lines and it has the bones when it gets a bit bigger.

There are plenty of views of Toronto's downtown not from the water or a highrise- on broadview east of riverdale park is great. You can get some good ones from the ridge north of dupont and christie - particularly in the winter with no leaves on trees. I know you love Calgary and I know the geography of the place, but it's not always the best you know? The view of Calgary from Centre st N isn't great for instance.

While that's true for a good chunk of that street specifically, there's the up-close panoramic view just before the bridge, and the distant views from Centre/Beddington Blvd intersection and Harvest Hills/Centre/Stoney Tr interchange. Those views are certainly nothing to sneeze at imo (sorry, no pictures yet). For the north side of the Bow River in general, there's the hill in Bridgeland around 4A, 5 and 6 St, Rotary Park, Crescent Heigts, and Hounsfield Heights Park, all near the centre of the city, just off the top of my head. The number of locations I want to get a skyline picture from in this city outnumber the locations from where I've already gotten one so far. I usually find out about angles from visiting sites for work, then have to find time to go back out with my camera.

Not saying there's not a lot of angles elsewhere in other cities, just saying that Calgary is definitely blessed with angles from all quadrants near and far, and they're fairly easy to find as kw had mentioned.

While Calgary is definitely topographically blessed for skyline photos, I find it's a bit of a double-edged sword. Basically, once you venture past the slopes of the river valley downtown is in, it's rather difficult to get a photo without the terrain chopping off the buildings from the bottom. The view from the airport, for instance.

You are making me out to be some overzealous Calgary fan. Im just simply pointing out that we have these JAW DROPPING views from LARGE HILLS RIGHT NEXT TO THE DOWNTOWN CORE. It really cool for a skyscraper geek and the other hundreds of people that go up to these viewpoints on any given night in all seasons.

The view from Crescent Heights is amazing. Makes you feel like you're looking at some futuristic metropolis. Most under-rated skyline view imo.

It would be very similar to Montreal's mount royal, except you can drive or walk the entire length. It is really hard to capture what the crescent heights view is really like on camera. The scale of the image gets totally lost. Also the downtown core comes to a triangle point at eau claire which also gets flattened on images....or to the naked eye. The whole skyline reads as being a long, straight run but really is a pointed triangle.

Images dont do it justice at all.

This part of the comment reminds me of trying to show what the view from the Escarpment is like in Hamilton. Except the escarpment has all sorts of trees that make looking out just fine, but it's almost impossible to take a decent photo through them.
