This sounds like a nice developpement. Any renders yet?

Great news for downtown Moncton!

Nice! That's another part of downtown that has been terribly neglected. Google map shows it to be at that awkward corner of Queen and Lewis. That end of Lewis is also slated to widen, is it not? I wonder if they can align the intersection while they're at it.

Excellent news!! The only thing that bothers me is this...

“I congratulate the architects on the design, it looks really great. Certainly in terms of increasing density downtown it’s a really nice looking building. I hope it comes to fruition,” notes Leger.

It worries me that it may not happen and there is still no date on when this could start.

That's an exciting proposal! I would certainly love to see 4-8+ stories become the norm between Main and St. George, as well as ground-floor commercial on key connecting corridors. A critical mass of mixed-use infill development like this would have an absolutely transformative effect on the vibrancy and character of Downtown Moncton. Keep 'em coming!

Yes, that section of Lewis is indeed being widened and realigned so that it will connect perfectly with Assomption at Main. You may be right that they could realign Queen at the same time, but I don't know if this is planned.

An eight storey mixed use building in this part of the east end of downtown could be a real catalyst for future development. I really hope this goes ahead as planned, but we have all seen how Valmond's proposal for Main at Harper has been downgraded twice now, and there is still no evidence of shovels in the ground for that particular project. We will have to wait and see......

When will the renders be released lrdevlop?

Hopefully this building gets off the ground. Moncton definitely needs 5+ storey developments in this part of town.

I'm sorry but I have no idea... Last time I heard about it it was supposed to be in June, but since it came out in the medias today, it might be sooner. I only saw the renders today and they are labeled as "updated" renders... so it should be soon. Oh, and don't worry about the look of the building, it's around x1000 times better than Valmond's old proposal for Main/Harper.

I'm also very confident this will get built. I know what has been happening in background since January and many things changed, but only for the better. I believe the construction is also slated for this summer (Not 100% sure but if I have good memory, it is supposed to). And BTW, this developer has a good reputation about getting things done; so I'm not really worried. It sure is going to be exciting!

Here's a really really quickly made map of where the building will go... (sorry for making such a bad looking map, but I didn't have time to do more)

I've seen the renders also, at first glance i thought i was looking at a project for Halifax. It's a modern sleek building complete with curtain wall and composite panel systems, hope this one goes forward and stays true to the renders, " your gonna like it"

Good stuff then. It'll be great to see some of the surplus surface parking in the east end disappear!!

If you count up, there must be at least 6-8 serious proposals out there now for high density residential or mixed development in the downtown core. Just imagine if they all came to fruition and the events centre was built too!!!

Awesome!! I'm very excited to see renders!

Downtown residential infill has hit a fever pitch (in terms of proposals) at this point. A quick breakdown of some others:

AshVerd
- 2x4 story 1x5 story
- Assomption Blvd
- Timeline iffy...may go ahead this year

Killam
-7 story
- St George Blvd
- According to latest Killam releases it will most likely go ahead in summer 2014

Harper Bldg
- 4 story?
- East Main st
- Downsized, timeline iffy
(last render produced, 4 story version unknown)

Dominion Condos Phase II
- 4 Story?
- Dominion
- Timeline unknown, may wait on events center

Unknown Apartment/Condo
- Details fuzzy
- Former Wesley United Site on St George
- Lot sold to developer, timelines unknown

I'm hopeful we will see traction on some of these soon!

All of those unknown timelines aren't promising. Hopefully this Queen Street development moves forward quickly.

Agreed, I am quite certain we will see most of them happen soon-ish, but the CMA has seen an oversupply of units being built in the last couple of years so developers may be waiting on that to work itself out first. That said our vacancy rate has remained surprisingly low considering everything.

The two on St George are pretty much 100% gonna happen starting next year.

Harper Bldg should go ahead, however smaller.

I thought you said the timeline for the church site development was fuzzy? What makes you think they'll get started next year?

Can't wait to see renders for the Queen street site! The area badly needs it and hopefully we'll see some nice retail/eateries on the first floor which could add to the ever growing selection of restaurants in the east end of downtown. With the area more or less "walled-off", it'll go a long way in creating some density and urbanity in that area. Maybe the city should look into closing off orange lane to vehicle traffic from Main to Queen (or at least to the entrance to city hall parking) and make it a pedestrian street. Several restaurants nearby could either expand or add terraces for summer.

Excellent idea. Orange Lane now is only a single lane one way street and doesn't see much traffic. There are already restaurants there (like the Pump House Brewery) that I think could benefit from the area becoming more pedestrian friendly....

Ya that is kinda confusing I guess haha, what I mean by fuzzy is that the development hasn't had a large media profile yet...and hence no "official" timeline. That said they have quickly bought up and cleared the land out in such a fashion that one would assume a nearby sod turning. Beyond that I have spoken with nearby businesses and "people on the street" who seem to think it will start this summer even...some say they have it on "higher authority"

While that may be taken with a grain of salt, all things considered its looking good for this summer or next

The City Grill on Westmorland Street is closing, and will reopen as two new restaurants (presumably upstairs and downstairs) in the near future:

- Angelina's Italian Grill
- Brooklyn Deli

This is apparently in response to the changing culinary landscape in the downtown area with several new popular restaurants opening in the core over the course of the last year.....

At Angelina’s Italian Grill the dining room will be large and airy with the aromas of garlic, tomato sauce and basil. It will have just the right balance of comfort and old world style to make it the right restaurant for any occasion.

We hope to be both an extraordinary casual dining experience and a favourite neighbourhood restaurant. We want to make everyone who walks into the restaurant feel happy.

We will operate on the principles of authenticity, hospitality, quality and fun. The dishes true to their Italian heritage and local sensibilities; the hospitality - generous and heartfelt; food - of the highest quality, as are the surroundings and ambiance; and finally there will be an affectionate sense of fun.

Angelina’s center piece will be the open kitchen. You will see respected well dressed cooks prepare your meal from scratch. The hustle and bustle will provide a liveliness that flows throughout the entire restaurant, not unlike the warm glow from the wood-burning oven.

You will not find any cans of prepared pasta sauce, microwave ovens or pre-made sauces. You will find pots of freshly made tomato sauce gently bubbling on the stoves, hand-rolled meatballs waiting to be cooked; and fragrant bouquets of fresh herbs soon to be chopped and mixed. You will also see jugs of imported, fruity olive oil; fresh and dried pasta; large chunks of age Romano and Parmesan cheeses; and bottles of red wine and balsamic vinegars.

Brooklyn deli will be about good food, good cooking and good people.

The Deli will capture the history of Brooklyn from the 1930s until today - guests will come to meet friends for an overstuffed deli sandwich and a premium coffee for lunch and come back with their families at the end of the day for fresh beef brisket, turkey with dressing and all the trimmings, a Brooklyn sized steakburger, crispy southern fried chicken or a mile high meat loaf.

As guests walk inside they will be greeted by the sweet smells and aromas of rich cheesecake- some plain and creamy, others crowned with strawberries, blueberries or cherries all finished off with our macaroon crumb topping. Rows and rows of perfect cookies, lemon meringue pie, and strawberry shortcake frosted with whipped cream and crowned with fresh strawberries. Bakery cases with pans of warm coffee rings stuffed with cherries & nuts, monstrous muffins and sticky buns. Most items will look extra-high and extra large, overstuffed with filling, towering with mounds of whipped cream or frosting, and professionally decorated to perfection. This will be no ordinary bakery counter.

The walls and decor will tell a decade by decade story of Brooklyn. The theatre district, vaudeville, rock “n’roll extravaganzas, Brooklyn Dodgers, the boardwalk, Coney Island and the Brooklyn Bridge. Framed press clipping of major Brooklyn events, pictures of baseball heroes, movie stars and Brooklyn memorabilia will adorn every corner of the dining room. Waiters in white shirts and black slacks, vests and bow ties- all making you think you just stepped back into the glorious fifties.

Going to Brooklyn Deli will be an event. A place that will be a home away from home.

Queen and Lester

Firstly, I love the Brooklyn Deli idea! I will frequent that place for a Sandwich and dessert if its as good as it sounds!

Secondly, here is a crappy Prnt. Scrn. of the New development from last nights council meeting, it wasn't very clean on the tv or the computer but here we go!

Was that taken by you? If so, please make mention of that as per the forum rules.

I'm actually really surprised to see something that contemporary being proposed. It'd be completely unlike anything ever built in the city to date.
