Considering the current BGBX building was constructed extremely slowly and was even looking like it may have been halted at one point I would not expect more construction to occur quickly.

As bare bones as it is, it really isn't that bad, especially considering it sits outside of the downtown area. It is better than some of the towers we have downtown.

Considering that CanadInns basically operates Holiday Inn-calibre hotels, I find it amazing that they seem to only build vertically anymore (their older hotels excepted).

It isn't hard to imagine newer CanadInns locations like the one at HSC, the ones in Brandon and Grand Forks, and the McPhillips Street Station location having being built as low-rise (3 or 4 floor), sprawly beasts surrounded by huge parking lots. By contrast, CanadInns builds them with some urban flavour in a way that adds to the skyline. It's nice to see.

it is true, say what you want about canadinns, but they are not building the 4 storey, wood frame 🞵🞵🞵🞵 that has been proliferating all over st. james in the last few years.....the hotel construction business has razor thin margins.....this building was built for $215/s.f.....that is a pretty amazing accomplishment for a high rise.

compare this to 95% of the hotels going up in the city and it isnt that bad....its nothing earth shattering, but its clean and simple.....

they could easily be building this:

I like the ugliness of the central park apartments. They provide character and contrast to the skyline. I would prefer many contrasting styles rather than a wall of glass.

But there are no contrasting styles. It's a sea of brown.

Thunder Bay has a more colourful skyline than Winnipeg and we don't have a skyline!

Would be nice to see someone do something similar with an apartment block - get a large budget-oriented apartment building in the Central Park area... really pump up the density around there.
