It is a bit of an odd project that I never expected to go anywhere, but alas it does have funding. I actually don't think it is stupid as most people do though. It in and of itself isn't going to accomplish much but it could be cool and useful if/when something ever actually happens in rossdale. I'm interested to see if it ends up being a novelty tourist thing, or something that might actually be useful for locals. It could easily end up just being a novelty piece which is unfortunate when it could be valuable connection in the long term.

The NET team on 118th got a big boost late last year. We had a big open house with EPS, Safe Streets and NET earlier this year, and there's a lot of emphesis on the area right now. We continue to work directly with EPS to ensure that we get the coverage we need

Downtown Division - District D1

The boundaries for District D1 are as follows: •97 Street to Wayne Gretzky Drive
•Yellowhead Trail to 112 Avenue

District D1 is a vibrant, changing district with many hardworking residents who are active in creating a safe and peaceful community. District 1 is known for its arts influence on 118 avenue and has some of the best restaurants in the city.

Immediate notification will be delivered to communities being impacted by break and enters. “Safe and Secure Home” kits have been distributed and will continue to be distributed to a number of homes located in District D1 neighbourhoods. These educational strategies will take place in partnership with the 118 Avenue N.E.T. and Safe Streets Program volunteers.

The community sergeant, community liaison constable and the neighbourhood empowerment team will work with the community to assist them in assuming ownership of neighbourhood concerns. Work will continue with the very successful Block Captain and Safe Streets Program, which was initiated in 2008. There will also be a focus on areas with repeat calls for service and will provide information to the community on safety, security, and crime prevention related matters. Partnerships will also continue with the Alberta Sheriff’s Safe Communities and Neighbourhoods team to identify and shut down disorder houses in the district.

District D1 officers are looking forward to further success and a safe and secure 2013.

Depends on what is closed during that time. And while Fox Towers are under construction, the market from 102 to 103 Ave is mostly being relocated to south of Jasper Avenue.

There is a LRT entrance in the middle of the building where it looks like an atrium is.

Yeah...but I think a side entrance from 101 St itself is needed because of the bus stop that's there. I'm not a fan of having to pass thru a private building (that can open and close when they want, or limit access to members of the public) to get to a public transit service.

Any building with an access to the LRT will have to abide by the pedway agreement, so access has to be granted from (I believe) 5:30am to 1:30am. The city is pretty strict about this. The only pedway/ LRT access that does not have to abide by that policy is at the Leg

That's awesome. I hope McCauley and Boyle Street are doing similar.

A bit of police presence on the sidewalks does wonders for an area.

^^ If that is true then I question the enforcement of such agreement. Ya see, my concerns with the First & Jasper LRT access are due to my own past issues with accessing Central station. Accessing via old EPCOR I encountered things like locked doors, hassled by security guards and what not. The Telus building is closed after 7 PM or 8 PM and on Sundays.

^ trust me.. it's enforced, big time.

We are directly connected to the pedway system at multiple points, we tried to lock down earlier for security purposes and were severely given the beatdown by the city. Pedways and transit accesses have to stay open until transit shuts down the for the night, private building or not.

^correct. I sat on the pedway/wayfinding committee with the City and DBA to review all of them and work to ensure they used similar/standard signage, had congruent times and didn't create a gap in the system.

Well guys, I did do a walk-by of First and Jasper just now and I do now see what looks like a 101 St side entrance to the building.

But you can get into that entrance via the stairs to the east of Telus North tower. (Or ATB tower or whatever they are calling it now) Right at the corner of Jasper and 100th. Actually either side, they both go into the tunnel with access to the LRT.

I believe the entrance to the LRT from First and Jasper will be similar to Scotia Place.

Actually, I looked at the floorplan. The LRT entrance is from Jasper Ave but from the street. Doesn't look like you have to go inside the building.

It won't be a park at $233sf for the land. This is one of the best sites in the entire city, it'll get picked up and someone will likely develop a mixed office/retail project.

Went & toured the new remand today. Impressive facility. Hopefully the only time I'll get to see the inside of it.
