Notice the difference between ''farine'' and ''five roses''. I'd wager the latter is pushing 100 years of age.

Edit: my pic

I doubt it. The building was built in 1947.

Other than 225-6th ave (because it's a new tallest), I could care less if Calgary got another 100m + tower, but woiuld like to see more low rise towers.

Too bad we couldn't make a trade....a couple of 100m towers from Calgary for say...a half dozen of the 15 storey ones.

I'm with Tallbob - I want to see height.

Now that Calgary has filled in and "tabletopped" at the 150m level, and is starting to sprout some 200+ towers, I want to see some action in the 250m and beyond range.

It's like the city fills in at the lower levels while at the same time grows taller as it matures.

Just different preferences I guess.

it will always be a let-down if you have 250m towers and then, like, houses with driveways 500m away. you gotta get chunkier.

Not too sure what you're talking about there... There are no houses with driveways in the CBD. If you're referring to Sunnyside / Kensington there's alot of midrise development going on there atm. There are SFH with lanes in the rear with garages in Sunnyside, but it's hardly 500m from DT.

Please let's not start this — all over again. Don't make me bring Longueuil into this.

LMAO! Yeah. This is getting old. Calgary is only 1.3 million people and does an absolutely incredible job at appearing to be 3 million. Still has a ways to go before being a major cosmopolitan metropolis but damn, it's off to a good start.

montreal is FAR FROM perfect. i'm not being a montreal booster. we need to check our —, south-shore wise, and even little burgundy.

but still.

just for keeping it city-like, and all.

Do you realize how far from DT that picture is? That's like almost in Montgomery or Varsity I think. If you had a picture taken from south of the core looking north there would be more of what you're talking about in the Beltline. The river cuts it off from the north. Obviously Calgary's not built out to the level of bigger cities like Montreal and Vancouver yet, but come on! In the last 5 years the change that has occured is incredible. Give it another 10 and this city will be unrecognizable.

Calgary's first areas of priority density will be the TOD sites along the LRT line. The area around U of C is already starting with the University City condos. Anyways, not to be overly defensive, I just wanted to inform you of the changes occuring and just around the corner.

no, but ideally. i get lenses and all that. but ideally. i mean, that far out in montreal, and you're in weird '50s shitboxes in st. leonard as well (or a little farther out)... but urbanity. shouldn't we all be philadelphia? probably.

i just feel like too many north american cities have these weird siding houses right in the city limits.

i guess that's not even the beltline area, but still. inner-city density. skyscrapers look so much better when viewed from little walkup/loft streets.
