How can any credible architecture firm release such poor renderings? It looks like it might be a nice building and development but because the renderings look like they were cut and paste from clip art patterns it makes the project seem sketchy.

Those renderings where released as a package when Carmen's made a bid to take over operations of Hamilton's Convention Centre. They won.

Anyways the Carmen's proposal is part of the casino process, they are partnered with Hard Rock Casino. They will submit a bid during the RFP process. They just happen to release their plans before the RFP closed. That's why the exact location is unknown at the moment. But we can all safety say it's for the John A MacDonald high school downtown location, the high school is closing after this school year.

There's other interested candidates for the casino but they won't release their plans until the RFP is closed. Carmen's, which is a local organization, released their plans early to try and drum up support for a downtown casino in Hamilton, the no side is pretty strong.

Often early, conceptual designs for a project look crude and amateurish. There just hasn't yet been the time, money, or reason to produce anything more refined.

^no excuse.....i would never let an image like that leave the office....no matter how early......import it to sketchup at least....takes 2 minutes.

The renderings are not that bad, I like it, and can visualize/conceptualize the buildings.

In the end, that's really all you need.

After the proposal competition has been completed I'm sure updated renderings will be made available. The fact the competing proposals didn't release their vision for the site would concern me more. Look at the crap MGM released after being outflanked by the Oxford for the Toronto Casino. Put that next to the Hamilton proposal and these guys are superstars. And MGM Grand a $100 billion dollar company just became the King of Lame.

Great to see something in Winnipeg, but damn couldn't they go taller lol. I'd really like to see Winnipeg and Edmonton get a skyscraper to rise above their plateaus.

What is the grey outline in front of the Augustus Tower? Are those the lines of what could potentially be built as the third hotel tower at the Caesars Windsor?

People keep trying to belittle the impact that 102 Street Centre (Manulife 2) will have. "It's only 12 meters taller"... well when considering that it will be 12 meters taller than the 2 tallest buildings and 20 - 50 meters taller than every other office tower, yeah, it is going to make a big difference.

Some of these designs are becoming more and more like what was considered pretty avant-garde design in the 50s and 60s, in other words just plain international style modernism, but less severe. Sometimes simplicity is a good thing.

There is huge momentum right now in downtown Winnipeg.

CMHR, CentrePoint, Glass House, D Condos, Convention Centre Expansion/Renovation + Hotel tower, Fortress possible twin tower project, Heritage Landing, etc, and now this? The architecture and planning in this development alone would be transformative for the whole entertainment district, not to mention all the rest of these projects.

Don't forget the 1. WAG expansion, 2. Osborne Tower, 3. New U of W Residential Tower, 4. New U of W sports complex (began construction the other day), 5. The Waterfront Hotel, 6. A possible 2nd Hotel beside the Convention Centre, 7. The lot just North of TD on Portage and Main is being tested for Geothermal for what is going to be a 15+ story building, as well as everything going on in the Exchange, and future projects which all in all amount to too many things to mention in one go.

As well as the ones that only Biff and Trueviking currently know about, including a potential new tallest for the city, at least that is what has been hinted at down the grape vine.
