And at the time Cumberland Street was in pretty bad shape, so there wouldn't have been a lot of area residents who gave a crap about streetscapes.

I find the city gets obsessed with just height issues and they dont seem to criticize anything to do with how buildings interact with the street or what materials are used.

I dont blame clairidge or other builders as much as the city. such as allowing things like that blank prison wall on besserer. the council didnt need to experience a "condo boom" to know what an eyesore it would be.

I'm pumped for these condos to go up - I applaud Claridge. I think they'll do wonders for this city. With more people living downtown and in walking distance to most amenities, we'll be less dependent on vehicles and public transportation which should help with the traffic congestion in this city! Not to mention what bringing more people downtown will do for downtown businesses... the byward market has been thriving more and more since the first two towers went up. From what I've seen so far of the developments, the towers will integrate well with the downtown. I can't wait - bring it on!

If you're going to applaud Claridge for pushing the envelope, then be sure to applaud all builders pushing the boundaries for height restrictions - Broccolini, Soho, Richcraft, Charlesfort, etc.... But don't applaud Claridge for the "wonders" they'll do yet - based on their history you'll be disappointed. They build very poor and unimaginative buildings that look awful after a few years of completion. As a very proud Ottawan I'll never forgive them for the monstrosity they built/building on Lett St. (when you've just finished a beautiful drive along the river, you're smacked in the face with this mustard stain) and the twin towers (soon to be quadruplets) with the white plastic railings as you drive into downtown off the Queensway. I applaud builders like Charlesfort who not only push the boundaries of height restrictions, but also design and build gorgeous buildings.

I was in agreement with you until you said "mustard stain". Colour is a matter of opinion. For you to not ever "forgive" them for something like colour makes you sound tremendously juvenile. Just sayin'.

It's not just the colour I hate about that building, it's just the most noticable exterior trait of that condo. I've had the "luxury" of having seen one of the interiors of the LeBreton condos - please see my review of the CP2 condo for my opinion.

I don't get what you mean here? They're not "close" to Cumberland, they're on Cumberland. And why would this location have any more ambulances and firetrucks than anywhere else? Trucks, admittedly, must be annoying here, but plenty of people seem to manage.

By close I meant a few feet from the street.

I know of several people who live there.

The truck noise is constant. It cannot be worse as you are right in the middle of the truck routes.
Rideau St. is a highway for buses.
Cumberland is the acces route to the market area for fire trucks.
The ambulance can be heard at any time of the day due to the core area.
If you don`t mind constant noise, I guess you will be OK.

I get that, but you're sort of getting what you expect there, right? Rideau will always be a very busy and congested street, but with that congestion comes vitality and access to shops and services. My parents moved to Sandy Hill and are two blocks from the the fire station on Laurier, and yea, you hear them all the time, but you get used to it and sleep through it eventually.

that's a busy busy fire station too; those trucks are in and then out again blazing and wailing pretty much continually! but you're right, people can get used to almost anything... except windmills and Zug Island.
