What plot of land is this on exactly? "Between Peachtree Rd and East Paces Ferry" doesn't really mean much to me. Those roads intersect, and all corners of the intersection are spoken for as far as I know.

Regarding the low-rise/high-rise debate, I'm on the high rise side. Firmly. Cities like Paris and Berlin have miles of uninterrupted 3-6 floor buildings...which is something we'll never have. We have miles of nearly uninterrupted detached single family houses, with precious few pockets here and there that can actually be developed with density. So I think it's important, where those pockets exist, to actually put dense stuff there, rather than building it out with low-rise blah.

To me, finish quality is less important than density. Unless we're talking about plots like 10th and Peachtree, which needs both quality and density. Skyhouse actually isn't a bad approach, issues of the parking garage aside.

The lack of transit in Buckhead is a side-issue here. We really, really need LRT service up Peachtree, but it looks to be ages away.

This is the more relevant point. It's not that things have to be a certain way, it's that the way they are is a reflection of a variety of conditions and constraints.

If the markets they're targeting won't live there if they think not it's a nice building, that will bear itself out.

I like having more density, but all these apartments in Buckhead will continue to cripple the roads with the car centric lifestyle there. There are so many empty parcels around MARTA stations what would be perfect for good apartment infill.

Too bad most MARTA stations were designed to be car centric. Just take a look at all the possibilities around stations in the East Side neighborhoods.

http://progressivetransit.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/why-is-it-so-hard-to-walk-to-a-marta-station/

On the plus side, MARTA is looking to start developing around some of it's stations very soon!

personally i'm disappointed in the fact that almost all the new stuff has to be so close to peachtree thank god for ponce city market hopefully thatll pave the way for density on other less dense roads

I remember seeing renderings for this a while back - it's nice to see more specifics reported. It looks like this is going on maple Drive, which is good because that area could use a face lift. Also its proximity to peachree street won't hurt in making the case for LRT up the peachtree spine. Does anyone know if this will have ground level retail? Previously i did not think it would but there are glass portions in the above renderings which seem like they could be for either some sort of lobby or retail.

When it's all "exciting designs" then none of it is exciting. A good bit of the mundane is needed in order for the innovative/creative to stand out.

Not a skyscraper, but I noticed yesterday that the building across Spring from Richard B. Russell has had its facade signage painted blue. This used to be a selection of small law firms and IIRC bail bonds businesses, but now the whole building appears vacant. I'm not sure what's planned for that lot, but a restaurant (especially a pizzeria) would be welcome there. I used to work in RBR, and there is nothing to eat nearby. Any news about this space?

Also, how do I get to the Atlanta sub-forum?

Streetcar tracks on Edgewood Avenue

This is on Edgewood Avenue, near the Sweet Auburn Curb Market
Atlanta City Councliman Kwanza Hall tweeted this photo of tracks finally being put on the ground for Atlanta’s new streetcar today.

This is very exciting! I've noticed that the tracks look to being laid in the middle of Edgewood. I thought they were going to be in the Eastbound lane according to renderings I've seen. Anyone have any more details on exactly where the tracks will be along the route? I can't find any.

I'm gonna head over to Edgewood for lunch tomorrow and support the businesses during construction! I encourage everyone else to try and get over there as well.

Beat me to it (although I thought I would get blasted for posting [more] non-skyscraper stuff here.)

Crews begin laying streetcar tracks in downtown Atlanta (AJC)

^Well this is actual construction, so you're good.
Seriously though I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I love all of the updates people put on this page, it's just a little odd to see an announcement about a new restaurant or a firm moving jobs into Forsyth County on the "Atlanta Construction Thread."

I wasn't singling you out, but I appreciate the response. As far as I'm concerned, "Atlanta" ends at 285 (and that's being generous )

Georgia Proton Treatment Center

Hey everyone, first post on here after months of just enjoying the posts. I live right across the street from the new Georgia Proton Treatment Center. I saw survey crews out two days ago marking the site. They also had a UAV taking aerial shots. Looks like the backhoe has started some grading of the land as of yesterday.

They're finally constructing the median on 10th street for a pedestrian crossing on the north side of the Midtown MARTA Station. They had the curb cuts finished months ago; I'm not sure why they waited this long to start on the median. It's supposed to have a rapid flash beacon for pedestrians.

Was that an enemy UAV? Did you have an SMAW on hand?
