Hey guys, thanks for all of the information, but this is the Atlanta construction thread. Almost all of the links and info posted on the last page belong in the Atlanta project thread or Atlanta neighborhood discussion thread. Thanks!

Atlanta Construction Video Blitz Pt 2

77 12th Street: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWklHWiaAvE
The building has been topped out. Most of the windows have been installed minus the very top floors and ground level. The recreation area's wooden "gazebo" can be seen from street level. IMO the balconies look larger than at Skyhouse. Not sure if they will put the AC units out there like in Skytrailer

New Cafe Intermezzo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPnMJcbKTVk
Crews are in the middle of a $800k buildout at Peachtree & 11th Streets. The front porch area will be large and welcoming. IMO this should draw a lot of pedestrians to this area & give this section of Peachtree St a vibrant pedestrian feel.

GA Tech EB Building: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEoX7xOxSHg
Tech's camus expansion continues. The Engineered Biosystems Building will provide 200,000 square feet (5 floors) of multidisciplinary research space to accommodate expansion of the Institute's bioXmedical research enterprise. Crews have completed excavating the southern part of the lot to make way for basement level facilities or an underground parking deck.

Buckhead Atlanta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X3VAschI6o
Construction is ramping up! Crews have begun adding floors to the long idled 6-7 story section fronting East Paces Ferry Rd. The front entrance area is up to the 3-4 floor. Developers have started construction on the 2nd lot next to the Buckhead Library.

92 West Paces Ferry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y9CuraDgZc
The building is topped out and stucco has been added to the southern section. Crew are still finishing the exterior of the northern third overlooking the Atlanta History Center.

Camden Buckhead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx108mRtcA8
All the buildings of the former Pace Apartments have been demolished. Crew are currently site grading and removing debris. IMO that's a lotta dirt to be moved!

Circle Terminus Apts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5i2IaIC_98
The concrete retaining walls have been blasted into place & crews are drilling the foundations of Building 1, closest to Terminus 100. Site preparation & grading is being done on the site of Building 2, directly behind Terminus 200. The Building 3 lot is still idle.

ESPN Zone/Flagship Restoration Hardware: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS5qHoUGNoQ
The sing out front indicates the building is under-contract. Plans call for a 6 story Restoration Hardware.

Planned Hilton Garden Inn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXw9Rx03Cz0
Loudermilk Development has put up a sign indicating construction of a 15 floor Hilton Garden Inn. The development schedule is still not set in stone but the CEO estimates groundbreaking in 6 months. Bordered by Roswell Road, Irby Avenue, Early Street and the Buckhead Theatre the site is presently parking lot.

Awesome update Immovable_Media.

I walked by the College Football hall of fame site and theres a ton of equipment out there, lots of activity.
Noticed that the former Museum of Patriotism location, in the Hilton by Centennial Park had a now hiring sign so went over to check it out. Looks like the place will now be called Game X, says they're hiring bartenders and servers. http://gamexatl.com/
Anyone know anything about this?

Nike plans to invest $21 million at Lenox Square

Nike Inc. plans to pour $21 million into a store at Lenox Square mall.

The athletic retailer on Friday filed a permit for the work with the city of Atlanta. The permit calls for a $21 million renovation for nearly 23,000 square feet on two levels at the Buckhead mall.

Nike’s current store sits inside the mall on one level.

The proposal comes as the mall is renovating its façade. Plans are to include a two-story retailer at the front of the mall, along with other new shops and restaurants.

"3) Downtown: From Legacy Property Group comes Game-X, a new restaurant, bar, and game venue opening in late March in the Luckie-Marietta district at 275 Baker Street. Game-X will offer a fast-casual menu, craft beers, and cocktails, as well as interactive games like air hockey, full-sized versions of Temple Run and Fruit Ninja, Pac-Man, and more"

Sounds like spot that will really appeal to families and tourists DT. I think this is the kind of trans-formative piece of DT that really indicates it's becoming a destination. I'm sure some will feel it's cheesey, but ultimately I think it says a lot about how the area is attracting visitors and enough of them to (hopefully) sustain these additional visitor focused businesses.

Edgewood Bridge Closing March 18th

http://www.atlantaga.gov/index.aspx?page=672&recordid=1724

News Release

Edgewood Avenue Bridge to Close for Construction on March 18, 2013
Demolition and Reconstruction Will Be Complete by April 2014

ATLANTA - Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI), in partnership with the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works, will close Edgewood Avenue between Randolph St. and Krog St. on Monday, March 18. Demolition and reconstruction of this span will continue through April, 2014. This is the section of Edgewood Avenue that crosses over the Atlanta BeltLine corridor. The detour routes will use Irwin St. and DeKalb Avenue for east-west traffic. All nearby businesses will be open and accessible during construction.

The Edgewood Avenue Bridge is currently the lowest structurally-rated bridge in use in the City of Atlanta and is in need of replacement. The design of the replacement bridge better integrates it with the Atlanta BeltLine with new pedestrian connections and an option to connect transit service via the extension of the Atlanta Streetcar network onto the Atlanta BeltLine corridor.

GSU student housing pictures

Ambling is moving quickly on the GSU student housing project:
http://www.amblingunivdevgroup.com/ga-state-one12-courtland

The renovation to the old Ramada hotel is in full swing, totally gutted, new facade, windows, etc. The lot next to it has been totally leveled, and appears to be ready for the 18-story tower. Amazing. GSU moves quickly after their announcements.

Don't get me wrong, I love that all these infill projects are happening, but can we get some more exciting designs please?

I see nothing wrong with the design. It's simple, its not gaudy, its infill, and its not a suburban style development and looks like it'll address the street front and feels appropriate for the environment. While the looks / design of a building can be relative to the eye of the beholder, I think we can all agree that this appears to be good form and function. Having an "exciting design" can cost money, a lot of money, and I'd rather infill that provides good function and at a relatively cheap cost so we have an eclectic, diverse populace which makes up a healthy, lively city.

I agree. Most more dense cities have miles of mundane, rather boring and uninspiring fill-in, but that is what makes a city landscape, And, in the case where someone does spend the money to have a more exciting or brilliant piece to add - it really is marked and notable. Think of NYC's miles of mundane high rise apartments that make streets on the upper east and west sides so interesting - it is the accumulation of population using the streets below that counts.

I stand by my request---justify your responses anyway you like, I am tired of the boring cell block low rise crap developers keep feeding us. Just bc things are the way they are, doesn't mean they have to be.

Boring cell block low rise crap?

Like I said, eye of the beholder and all that, but I don't find it boring and it fills a need. When you add expensive facades, rents go up, when you have unique buildings that doesn't utilize space, the space that is available goes up. When you don't address the sidewalk, you get a hostile urban environment. When you pay an architect for a complex, unique design, prices drastically go up.

I guess we approach Atlanta, and urbanity, differently. I want a lively, walkable, diverse city. You want a Disney land type place filled with tall buildings, each with a whimsical, unique design, built for the rich who can afford that.

While I know this is "skyscraper forum", Atlanta does not need skyscrapers. We need low-rise infill, 3-6 story buildings.

While I would like to see first class architecture throughout the city, the economics just will not support it. What is more important, IMO, is that we have continuous, contiguous development that is as dense as the population can bear. Most European and S. American cities have block after block of 3-6 story uneventful contiguous housing and shops - think of Paris, Berlin, etc. The streets are highly walkable and very busy. Architectural gems are few and far between. But it is a cityscape. However, what happens in most of these situations is that on occasion there is an outlier in the mix - a building of distinction and quality. In my mind that is what makes a city interesting.

It's this kind of mentality that keeps things as they are-same stale arguments over and over and over again and I refuse to buy into any of it. I don't want whimsy or Disneyland, I want visionaries and innovators that challenge the entire process, we can have all those things you argue for, but in new creative ways. I refuse to believe otherwise and that's all I am gonna say on the matter. label me anyway you want, but it won't change my mind.
