Welcome Retallack. Just ignore fourthtower, he talks a big talk but it becomes quickly obvious that most of his opinions are guesswork (for example, not know where people live east of the city in the post a few above, as well as being antagonistic all the time).

As for Regina vs Saskatoon, in real life outside of this forum I've never heard anyone in Regina make it to be a rivalry, but usually whenever I go to Saskatoon there are a few people who try to make comparisons. I always tell them that the rivalry is one-sided, people in Regina tend to not think about Saskatoon that much, outside of a few antagonistic people here on the forum.

This statement is not quite accurate, yes a few low enrolment programs were cut, but overall enrolment levels at the U of R are at their highest level in history, at just over 13,000 students.

Actually, all of the growth for enrollment at the University can be attributed to the new Nursing faculty. Otherwise, the enrollment is stagnant.

1. Enough of the silly disagreements. Let's keep this forum on track.

2. I wish someone would redevelop the entire block section containing the empire hotel at the corner of Albert street and sask drive. That would be a perfect spot for a new hotel and mixed use. Close to shopping, football, exhibition, dewdney avenue bar strip and even a short walk south to the cathedral area on 13th. That corner does nothing as a gateway into the downtown. The new office building on the former Coronet Cinemas spot is a perfect start but I would love to see an overhaul of sask drive and Albert.

3. Could anyone kindly take some pictures to update us on the 13th Avenue Safeway progress, the 11th and Albert Office Development as well as the Southland Mall and some further back shots of the two condo towers?

That would indeed be an interesting development. A new, less sketchy hotel at that location would be amazing (assuming it would be developed that way by the potential purchaser).

That corner, combined with the north side of Sask Drive, and possible re-development of the current Post Office head office would be epic for the Sask Drive corridor if done properly. If developed, maybe it might stir up some re-development of Sask Drive on the west side of Albert Street?

"new, less sketchy" provides a lot of latitude.
Agree though, I hadn't thought of a hotel for that corner but maybe.....? All it takes is someone with cajones to make the first step towards redevelopment that could set the tone for the entire corner.

Actually, the growth in enrollment isn't all attributable to the new Nursing faculty.

Total enrollment by 2012/13 has gone up by 1,451 students in since 2008/09; less than half of that number (674 students) are in the Nursing program.

Plus the school has grown by one faculty (or college).

I was meaning this past years enrollment. I was at a meeting between concerned staff regarding the budget situation on campus and the President, and that is what she said at the meeting regarding enrollment numbers.

What is also ironic is that the U of S has more cuts they need to make to programs then the U of R but they recently announced the hiring of 50 new positions at the end of the year. Plus plans to build SK first architectural school for 200 million. But yet they have a 3/4 un-finished health science building that needs more funding to be finished from the prov gov.

I thought the U of R had an architectural school on campus as soon as you turn off Wascana parkway coming off ring road east. The circular roof building, with a sun dial? My opinion the U of R should get that school!!!

Why is there a funding gap?
