I believe only two floors are empty - 5 and 15. Due to the way the building is setup they are poor office space (15 is a crossover elevator floor which reduces the office space, and 5 used to be the CN cafeteria and the office space is reduced because of the parkade).

And while not a reskin, I have seen some images of potential changes to the outside of the building... no idea if/when that will go ahead. But the new owners are putting lots of money into the building.

I say there should be very VERY minimal change to the exterior of the CN tower. Yah it's not that pretty currently, but it is iconic; was it not Edmonton's first high rise? It should be considered a historic landmark Imo.

Maybe get rid of the ugly dark brown tinted windows or whatever they are.. Swap in light blue windows. And repaint the stripes so it's a brighter cleaner white. I agree with some touch up, but not too much

All I would want for CN would be a freshening up, ala First Canadian Place in Toronto (though it got entire new curtain wall installed, so a bit more than just a "freshening"). Still, the architectural integrity of the tower must be maintained, it's one of the City's best examples of Modernism.

ABSOLUTELY!! The architectural style of this building is timeless. It just needs a bit of love.

Last I heard, the owner of CN was in a heap of legal and financial trouble.

I've been partial to the following in the wonderful realm that is my imagination:

1) Reskin tower with updated materials - white acrylic or some other sort of material with a sheen or gloss.

2) Consider changing the skin from vertical to horizontal stripes - maintain and preserve the unique profile of the building (bevelled edges at corners).

3) Replace windows / tint to something like you mentioned -light blue.

Correct. The group has been the subject of several lawsuits in Edmonton related to some condo building problems. I believe there substantial liens on the CN building

Tawa International Inc. no longer owns the CN Tower. It was sold a while ago to Strategic Group out of Calgary.

^You're right...Tawa is no longer associated with the CN Tower. Years of doing patchwork repairs is the reason why the new owners need to put in so much capital investment.

^ Interesting. THat must've happened fairly recently.

Strategic Groups' holdings seem to primarily consist of B class office space and strip malls. Poor CN tower ain't gettin' no love any time soon unless whoevers' backing Strategic decides to spend some capital

Agree with the others.. CN Tower is a beautiful building. Aside for cleaning it up and replacing the glazing I would not want to see it changed

^It happened awhile back. For some reason I believe that KingSett Capital is tied to CN Tower.

CN Tower may look dated now, but give it 10-20 years and you'll be able to appreciate much more as a good representative of the style of its time.

On the schadenfreude front, apparently Peregrine Point is having MAJOR issues with its roof already, and its poor owners are going to get hit hard.

CN tower needs the dollars. The mechanical system needs a major retrofit. The windows need to be replaced. The window in my wife’s office has been cracked for 2 years and the HVAC is not operating as it should. The induction system is not even working on her floor. But I do love the lines.

^ We budget priced a controls retrofit in there a while back.. 6 or 7 years.. It died quickly, due to the cost I would assume. I heard it was in bad shape then, I can only imagine it's gotten a lot worse.

CN's one of the few towers I never got to do any work in.

Having talked to leasing reps for CN Tower in years past, the skinny windows and zillions of vertical mullions (if I understand the vernacular) are a huge impediment to attracting/retaining tenants.

^ I imagine it's got narrow corridors and gas station bathrooms as well. The GLA of the floors probably makes it tough to lease. very govenment-style.
