Vancouver is actually not that bad in height and is considerably taller than Edmonton.

Van's tallest is the Shangri-La, 197 meters.

After that Van has 2 more completed towers over 150 meters, with 1 more (which will be our second tallest) under construction and 2 more serious proposals.

So together that is a potential 6 towers over 150 meters.

After that there is another 11 towers complete and under construction over 130 meters.

So that now totals a potential 17 towers over 130 meters. (not including spires).

Together downtown, there are 58 towers over 100 meters.

Edmonton's current tallest is 140 meters (sorry, I don't count the extra 10 meters added by the tiny spires on top of Epcor. The tallest serious proposal is currently 161 meters.

So that is just one tower proposed over 150 meters currently.

Edmonton has 5 towers over 130 meters completed and proposed (again, not counting spires / antennas).

There are 15 towers in all at or over 100 meters.

So again, there is a considerable difference between Van and Edmonton. And then there are Van's burbs which now also have many 150 meter plus serious proposals and projects currently u/c.

PS - Not arguing, just adding and having some fun with some stats.

As much as everyone hates that crane, it puts it over 200 m (official listing is ~201m I think).
That was the promised "surprise" everyone was waiting for during construction. I would aspire to more.

Vancouver should have six buildings of 150m or more by 2015.

Herald building, originally a heritage building that got a reclad in the 1960's.

It is the building being demolished to make way for Western Canada's new tallest, variously known as Herald Square, 225 Sixth, and Brookfield Centre. To begin construction this summer. It will be the tallest office tower built in Canada since 1990, and tallest by roof-height since 1988. In the roof-height scale, it will be the third tallest office building in the country behind First Canadian Place and Scotia Plaza, just ahead of Commerce Court West and The Bow.

And it will be office building that receives the most sunshine in Canada
