So the question is, what are they replacing it with? We know there is a building permit, but someone pointed out earlier they can't just pave it over.

While the announcement was obviously premature, I don't think I'd go so far as to call it a media "stunt". Hopefully construction will start on it sometime this year.

After reading the article a few times, maybe its just phrasing it poorly. I figure what they might mean is structural construction on the building is complete, and they are some (not all 40%) leasers starting to come in and start interior construction on their offices...??

Not that its a big deal, just found it odd to call it complete. Made it sound move in ready.

Does anyone know if they are upgrading the exterior of the building? I know they recently redid the balconies but it would be strange if they modernized the inside but left the outside looking dated.

Use Regina.ca's property tax assessment search page, using Walmart's address ("4500" "Gordon", in their respective fields) in the "Search by Street Address" section of the page, click "property map" button of the results page, and pan over on the pop-up map to the left (west), and you should be able to see Universal Cr. aligning just south of Aerodrome Rd. at the intersection with Gordon Rd. Apparently, there's no queryable addresses registered in Regina.ca's database for that crescent yet!

Otherwise, I'd link you to Regina.ca's interactive city map, but I can't seem to get that to work (display the map) satisfactorily. (If anyone knows the in's and out's of this page, please let me (us) know!)

At a minimum they are repainting. I am not sure what else.

Hahaha....we just drove by there a while ago and were wondering the same thing. Not the craziest thing we saw, though. Came across a car driving the wrong way down the #1 by White City maybe an hour ago. Scared the bejeezus outta me!

If you take a look at Google Maps you can see the unpaved road. It is the unfinished crescent south of Gordon Road between Harbour Landing Dr and James Hill Rd. The condos will be two L-shaped buildings forming a rectangle right at Gordon Road. You can see it on the Harbour Landing map.

Haha...couldn't make the guy out! We called 911 and it was actually busy lol. As soon as we told her our location she said "Guy driving the wrong way?" They had already received a few calls about him...

I thought Universal was an odd name for a street in Regina. As the streets in the area have airport names, I thought I would research that angle. Sure enough:

Groome flew the first intercity airmail in Saskatchewan between Saskatoon and Regina. (The letter was from Saskatoon's mayor to Regina's mayor.) He celebrated the Queen's Birthday on May 25, 1919 by flying 3 miles to the RCMP training depot and then taking dignitaries, including the RCMP commissioner, on local flights. The Aerial Service Company flew passengers and fr8 around the province and provided flying lessons to eager would-be pilots. In 1927 Groome expanded his aviation business by founding Universal Air Industries with Jack Wight. The 2 men built a second airfield, the Lakeview Aerodrome, on the site where the Golden Mile Shopping Centre now stands.

It is nice that Regina's airport is named after a history-making pilot. (Even though is is not stated as such in the Canadian Flight Supplement and Canada Air Pilot.) As to why more of our airports are not named after aviation pioneers instead of politicians, I'll never know.
