Another weekend diversion. Looks like Aeroflot 107 LAX-SVO stopped in due to a medical emergency... Carried on after a short while. Flight was a Airbus A330-200.

i have a dumb question - i need to catch a US bound flight from edmonton - do i do all the customs stuff in edmonton? i only have 42 minutes to make a connection in houston texas and if i have to clear customs down there i won't make the next flight - is it doable?

the other flight option gives me 1 hr 42 mins layover in houston - i think that would be the better option? i've missed connections before in the states flying i am nervous something will go wrong

one more option i can fly via toronto - would i just do customs when i get to new york? or would i have to do it in toronto?

US Customs and Immigration officials work here in Edmonton and clear all US bound passengers at our Edmonton International airport. In Houston you just go to your connecting gate. Your luggage checked in at Edmonton is of course also cleared and will be checked right through to your final destination from the USA (Houston in this case) if booked on the same ticket or if you used a travel agent and they made on-line arrangements. Please support flying from Edmonton first. If the airline sells you the ticket they plan on you making the connecting with 42 minutes. The same is applicable if you leave via Toronto. You do not say when you are flying, however we have a well-timed non-stop flight to New York starting in May 01 on United Airlines.

Only the morning and afternoon flights to Houston clear customs in Edmonton. The red eye departure near midnight clears customs in Houston.

Dansk is correct, we flew that one on Thursday and as it was the only transborder flight at midnight, we used gate 62 on the domestic side and cleared customs in Houston and connected to our flight to Cancun. 1 hour 42 minute layover should be fine, I've made shorter ones there before.

thanks for the info, the houston flight leaves at 11:55 pm i think, and it goes to newark so i may go via toronto to avoid that airport...

i haven't really flown to the states in a long time so not sure how they do it all anymore

Yes Brentk is correct OAG indicates YEG-DEN is back to three daily July 2. As mentioned 1 E-170, 1 CRJ-200/700 (alternates through week) and the new mainline A319. That's a positive increase on daily seats on this sector.

So UA continues to dominate the transborder market from YEG.

IAH 1 daily 738. Down from 2 in winter 2012/13.
ORD 2x daily CRJ-700.
SFO 2x daily CRJ-700. Up from 1 in 2012.
EWR 6x week A319.
DEN 3x daily (includes new 1x daily A319)

Pretty good!

I sure hope we get Dallas on AA. And on the topic of AA a little news item unrelated to YEG but might be of interest to those who follow AA...and would also like a lifetime of free first class flights.

Interesting, EIA has been wanting to connect with this city for a while. Sounds like a charter flight, but good start if it happens:

The Prince Rupert Airport is considering teaming up with a Calgary based airline to add new flights to help residents escape the city's rainy months.

After another year of increased passenger traffic, YPR is working on linking with Enerjet to introduce new flight destinations to Las Vegas, Calgary and Edmonton.

Airport Manager Rick Reed says in addition to the new sun fun travel initiative the airport wants to include a stop in Prince George to pick up passengers interested in traveling to Vegas.

Reed says the new flights won't cost the airport a significant amount of money and hopes to see this plan lift off later this year.

"We would have a brief stop in Prince George to pick up passengers and than coming back we would all go through customs and immigrations in Prince George. The air fares themselves will be the passengers responsibility but if the flights between Calgary Edmonton and Las Vegas using Enerjet are any indication, the airfares could be in the range of maybe a couple hundred of dollars."

There was a four percent increase in passenger traffic this January in comparison to 2012. YPR is also working towards introducing affordable flights to Vancouver and Victoria for Christmas shopping and special holidays like Thanksgiving and Easter.

They also landed a deal with Transat holidays this summer to do the Spring/summer Mexico flying to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta from YYC,YEG and YVR.

The crews are probably pretty happy to see something other than Fort Nelson and the Suncor strips this season.

What do you mean?
Calgary/Edmonton/Fort St.John/Fort Nelson on the same run is not fun?
