Umm, more like 1960s? Wasn't Calgary's skyline like a barn, a haystack, and an outhouse in 1910?

Not at all. Calgary had and still has large multistory stone low rises from that era, like the 6 story Grain Exchange Building (1910), 6 Story Lewis Lofts (1909), 10 story Southam Building (1913-demolished now), and the 15 story Palliser Hotel (1914).

The Calgary skyline in the 60s was much larger than that.

As I said, whoever edited that photo merely edited out the primary core of the city and only left the Beltline (south of the tracks) to show how large that particular skyline is even on its own.

That old photo of Calgary skyline was probably early 70's. The Calgary Tower (Husky) was finished in 1969.

Guys, it's NOT an old photo of Calgary, if you actually take some time to examine the pic, the Ariva 34 is there in the right side of the pic, as are all of the modern condo towers and office buildings of the beltline. As I said, the photo is merely the Calgary skyline with the primary skyline north of the tracks eliminated. There is only one tower north of the tracks included, and that is Encana Place right across the street from the Palliser. There are also a few towers that front onto 9th Ave (north of the tracks) but they are built over the tracks/right on the tracks so that's fine, including the Palliser and Calgary Tower.

This photo is literally JUST an exercise by KW to show how vast the Beltline skyline is. Some of you may remember a couple months ago when he said that the Beltline alone was the size of Winnipeg, Regina, and Saskatoon combined. Which obviously isn't true, but it's about the size of Regina and Saskatoon combined. Pretty impressive.

actually it is about equal to Saskatoon's skyline. no more. Saskatoon has quite an extensive city center. most who haven't been there tend to under estimate its actual size. once they drive through it, they are more often shocked at its vastness for a city its size.

The CIBC tower has always been close to my heart because of how imposing it looks from Mansfield street.

p.s. for those who don't know, in the coming years there will be 7 towers between 100-147 metres built on rene-Levesque beyond the CIBC tower, gonna give us a nice street wall effect.

The CIBC tower is a subtle and underrated skyscraper whose quality isn't always obvious at first glance in a photo, but it really is a gem, one of my favourites.

As for the projects behind CIBC, by seven, are you including the proposed but not yet fleshed out YUL office tower? Because I can only think of the 3 twin condo projects. It's also worth noting that Tour des Canadiens and L'Avenue, while not actually on Renee Levesque, will be very tall towers in this same cluster that will contribute to the urbanity and visual appeal of this stretch of the boulevard.

^By the 7, I meant specifically Roccabella (147m +147m), Icone (145m+105m), YUL (probably 2x 120m), and the Maritime (probably 120m as well). But you're right in mentioning the Avenue and Habs tower, ad let's not forget that the Drummond towers will be build a stone's throw away from Rene-Levesque.

Of course! How could I overlook Maritime? I'm actually really looking forward to that one, I think it'll be transformative for the area.
