Where do you park? I usually just park in a parking structure just east of Grand Park for around 8 dollars. I was hoping to find a new spot closer to LA Live, anyone have any spots?

Hunter, I don't know you. We've never met. You don't know me and I don't know you. So the issues I have with you are not personal issues because of the simple fact that I am not alone in my thinking when it come's to your posts. If she were alive today, Helen Keller could see and hear the racist undertones in your posts. There is nothing at all that you can say that justifies your repeated history of racist posts. And all of this is coming from a black guy living in Westlake (amongst a hell of a lot of brown people). You essentially insulted me, a person of color, when your world famous quote about brown people and Target glared it's way into the record books. You basically said that I wasn't worthy of shopping at Target. I could say a lot here but I've been on this site for almost 10 years. I don't want to screw that up.

But you are still going to hear it from me. Off topic I know but this needs to be said. And if you are a regular forumer (or even a lurker), then I apologize for this. Race is always going to be a fragile subject and has zero place in this thread but enough is enough.

I said a few days ago that you suck at sarcasm. I was being totally honest when I said that btw. I consider myself a sarcastic person. I'm no Daria Morgendorfer but I know how to read things between the lines. I was born AT night not LAST night. Take what you typed earlier. What you said was this:

What you meant was this:

I think people would respect you more if you just came out and admit that you have a strong dislike of brown people for whatever reason. People will say, 'HunterK...what an asshole. But at least he's an honest asshole.' But you repeatedly say deplorable things time and time again. And then ignore whenever someone calls you out on your bullshit. Like when you rubbed everyone the wrong way with your 'why are all these people from Westlake shopping here?' Because when I have money in my pocket and a desire to go shopping, I can go wherever the hell I want. And if Maria and Armando wants to come along, perfect. And what was so funny (at least to me) was you went back and deleted about 10 or 15 of your posts. Not really sure what you were trying to accomplish because people who quoted you captured whatever it was you posted.

The ironic thing is that I'm probably wasting my time writing this because you'll read it, say 'meh,' then run off and take a hundred pictures, brag about the amount of pictures you take (as well as being the only person ever in the history of recorded time and space that has ever taken a picture of ANYTHING), throw in some snide comment about something or another, and we'll be dancing in this same circle sometime next week.

And what truly pisses me off is that *some* of the stuff you say I totally agree with. I totally agree that street parking on Spring needs to end and the sidewalks widened. Walking in the street to bypass thousands of people clogging the sidewalk during Artwalk is not fun. But you negate all of that with some of the stuff you say.

We all want DTLA to thrive. None of us would be on this thread (some of us for over 10 years) if we didn't give a shit about the future of downtown Los Angeles. But my vision of downtown is a downtown that everyone of every demographic can enjoy. If a refined gentleman from Bel-Air wants to drive his Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn across town for a glass of 50 year Scotch at The Edison (as an example), so be it. Nothing wrong with that. If Maria Gonzales from Boyle Heights wants to hop on the Gold Line so she can enjoy whatever catches her eye downtown, awesome. As it should. DTLA is transforming before us into a place that EVERYONE can enjoy.

So again, enough with the racist comments. Such low class especially in an age like today in a city like ours who's entire identity is forever braided with 'brown people.'

I like reading your posts a lot. I know from seeing you on here and SSC that you are a stand out guy who loves DTLA and wants to see it grow and improve as much as anyone. And I agree with this post. But rule number 1 when talking about race: NEVER say that you are not a racist then in the next sentence explain why you are not a racist. What you said is basically the same thing as someone saying, 'I'm not racist. I have 3 black friends.' It's not a good look when you can count how many people of a different race you know. Not calling you a racist at all and I hope you don't take it the wrong way.

Well said! Its evident that many of Hunter's posts contain racial innuendos. I could care less how he wants to "justify" or "explain" his reasoning... I just hope he now realizes that he will be publicly called out on it if he continues.

Olympic & Olive Northeast Corner.

Or the structure on Hope between 8th & 7th (east side of Hope).

Both are super cheap. I can't remember how cheap..But I used to park in only those 2 places before I moved here.

Somehow I doubt you or your buddy Hunter would be on here complaining if DTLA was 75 percent white.

Anyhoo...no more of this topic...let the Anglophile set sneer all they want..wont change anything.

Now...question, has anyone seen or heard about this supposed Barry Shy Tower thats been on the back burner? I know recently he was interviewed and said he wants to break ground by summer or something. Its supposed to be a 40 story structure. Ive never seen a render...but at least from what he said on LADT News, hes finalizing approvals.
That would make a impact streetside and skyline wise.

Places can be 75% white and still be pretty trashy. I mean, look at The Valley! Maybe not 75%, but my point remains the same.

Oh i get that, but im saying that in their cases, 'trashy' doesnt seem to be the main concern in their posts.

Seriously? It was an off topic lecture that was of no interest to me. If people spent half as much time posting with thoughtfulness (look above the post box when posting) as they do considering worst-case interpretations of Hunter's posts, this would be a better place. Most of the last 2.5 pages (save Hunter's contributions) needs to disappear.

According to ladowntownnews.com, SB Omega is supposed to break ground in April. It'll be interesting to see how such a tall tower will fit in with the Historic Core. But 1,200 parking spaces?

Quote:
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - Barry Shy is in the preliminary phase of planning a 40-story tower that would rise at 601 S. Main St. The 350-unit development would include 35 residential floors over a five-level, 1,200-space parking facility. Shy, who says the project is “by right,” is looking to break ground by April. It is unclear, however, whether the site’s zoning regulations would allow a tower of that size. The building would be Shy’s sixth Historic Core apartment project, but his first ground-up development.

I know, I'm not exactly sold on a building that tall in that part of town. It will literally be the 'thumbs up' of the historic core. OTOH, it will bring a lot of new residents. I'm not sure about that parking either, other than that it will also serve his other buildings in the area.

Btw, the Onni project site on the parking lot map is #61

pinkfloyd, my 1000000 is in response to the 100000000 times someone complains that a new proj isn't taller or doesn't fit their idea of perfect urban design. I won't say anything about the 1000000000 times someone, rightly or redundantly.....& one way or the other it is what it is, so such broken record comments don't bother me......complains about this wonderful, sleek, urban ideal stuff....

thelorenzo.com

you're correct about the map....I mistook that location for the parking lots west of the eastern columbia bldg. That actually means there are also some parking lots in the hood....& not just old bldgs & warehouses....that haven't been marked on the map.

I'm very curious as to basis of your predictions...
based on reading for over 15 to 20 yrs that dt has more office space than it needs. I remember thinking....or some ppl saying....it would get better when the red line was built. Today the hood is served by better transit than ever before....at least since the days of the big red cars....& more ppl are living in dt than ever before. But the time when a proj like the Grand wilshire doesn't have to keep delaying its groundbreaking cuz of lack of demand....or can be made bigger & taller due to demand.....has yet to come.

I believe dt is the ONLY urban ctr in the US....at least among major cities....that has been listed as being overbuilt, even during the last boom about 10 yrs ago. so the news about microsoft not only not opening a new office in the hood, but instead closing down its existing space & moving towards the coast, is nothing to take lightly. That company is one of the few parts of the economy....meaning software & the internet, & ipads.....that has some potential major growth in the future, so if dt doesn't get in on the action, where else will the growth come from? Finance, accounting, legal services? but that's what the hood has been dependent on til now.

Quote:
Obviously not, since you've been completely wrong on the momentum for quite a while now.
I thought the parkfifth proj across from pershing sq of a few yrs ago was good to go. I was confident the owner had what it took to actually break ground.

I took the sign of construction of a plywood barricade around the site of the LA central proj a few yrs ago at face value.

I thought the devlpr of the glass tower proj...across from the elleven condo tower....after he said repeatedly to the media that he would start work on his bldg very shortly, could be taken seriously.

if anything, jdrcrash, I've been overly optimistic in the past.

That makes me feel a bit better if the parking garage (podium?) is going to be used by more than one building.

Still, I need to see some renderings before I give an opinion one way or another but to be honest, I'm not expecting much in terms of design. But maybe I'm totally wrong and this will be a gem in the Historic Core. We'll just have to wait and see.

you've managed to do it again! the first pic I've ever seen, here or anywhere, of clifton's with its windows no longer covered by those fugly concrete blocks. however, I read the blocks were installed to make the bldg stronger in earthquakes, so I wonder if that was a cheap way of reinforcing the facade, & now they're spending the $$ to do it the right way.

Good to hear about figaros too.....I don't think anything less than its success will be tolerable, not when broadway is still toddling & needs all the help it can get.

btw, huntkerk, please don't poke the trolls.

brudy, and now there's a complaint....or worry about...a bldg being too tall!??

I think of a person getting into a car, which has 4 bald tires, one about ready to go flat, the other totally flat, worrying that the interior seats are covered in vinyl instead of leather. Or that the steering wheel isn't a nice color.

Another thing to add to the list of the comments posted to this thread, going back yrs, over & over again....unhappiness that a new proj will have or has too much parking, either underground or, more understandably, in a large enclosed structure at the base of a tower.

I don't mind such comments, but everyone should keep them in mind when a forumer notes there's too much redundancy in the posts here in the dtla thread.

Isn't the point of a forum basically to discuss things? Of course there will be redundancy when we're talking about specifically about buildings in a relatively specific part of the city. Debating the merits of a particular project is the point. It seems like what you're saying is the equivalent of complaining about too much reading in a literature class.

Sadly, I was just theorizing on why there would be so much parking.

I'm not against the height at all, just wondering about the impact of something so much taller than the surroundings. It will be like the Hancock and Prudential towers in Boston. They kind of have a lighthouse feel.

Personally, I have doubt that this tower is even going to happen. Something about it just doesn't seem right.

exactly! It's NOT me....it's others....who gets in a tizzy when certain comments & criticisms get repeated here. I take all the postings at ssp in stride....for what they're worth. only ones I really don't like are the troll baitings....as a few recent ones have been....& really need to be red penned. But the best postings are the photo updates.

also posts with comments from ppl who actually are IN the hood, not just observing things from miles away. That's cuz one's perceptions of things can be quite different....as is the case with me.....when directly in the middle of things. I notice that, with rare exceptions, when I'm visiting dt, the major concerns that certain ppl, including here in this thread, voice about the hood lose their meaning. That's cuz when I see things closely....first hand....the comments about some devlpt or new proj not fitting an urban ideal lose their punch. IOW, when I'm actually in dt, I do feel like I've just gotten into a car & suddenly realize....that sinking feeling....I have to deal with a flat tire or tires about ready to go flat.

this is the type of comment I'm describing, but which I'm not happy about. but it's helpfully descriptive, & I'm assuming accurate....it sounds legit. if it's real, it is what it is. however, the full review is so harsh I almost wonder whether it was written by a competitor in the hood, or an angry ex employee....

Quote:
DO NOT EAT HERE! I really wish I had read a few reviews before we spent a ridiculous amount of money for what was probably my worst dining experience I've ever had - ever! I would like to preface this review saying my husband and I worked in the restaurant business for several years and we left with our jaws on the floor at the horrendous service, food, and attitude. We only ended up here because we were downtown for an event and the wait at Bottega Louie was too long. We noticed this French restaurant across the street that was almost empty and decided to take our chances. Mistake! Note to self - if a restaurant is almost empty at 7:30 on a Saturday night there is a reason!

I have that same feeling.. The tower seems extremely far fetched..

Anybody want any pics of anything in specific today?
