The state has spent years buying up the land in between memorial and mlk for the future park. I think they've acquire about half of it.

This parking deck is actually part of the capitol gateway park plan as it is intended to replace the parking deck which currently sits on capitol avenue between MLK and Memorial. Obviously, destruction of that deck is necessary if the park plan is ever to come to fruition. So I'm actually a fan of this parking deck being built. It means we are just one step closer to having a capitol mall!
I agree. The deck will be one of the nicer ones in the city and fits well with the government center. I tried to find some plans of the gateway - I remember seeing them somewhere - but couldn't. There are already some 'landscaped' parcels between Oakland Cemetery and the connector that will be part of the linear park. I think it would be great for downtown and east along Memorial Drive if it happens.

I visited Emory Point for the first time today, and I have to say I was impressed. Especially for unincorporated DeKalb County, it's a very urban design. Sure, there's a huge parking deck, but it's hidden much better than some of the recent stuff in Midtown. Most of the people were walking there from Emory and CDC. Lines out the door at all of the restaurants. Anybody know how well those apartments are doing?

I agree shivtim, and this is just Phase I. Phase II gets underway this summer. Cousins knows what they're doing, and I really like the design of this complex. I just wish T-SPLOST had passed, and we would have LRT from Lindbergh at the front door of Emory Point. From what I understand, Emory and the Feds still want this to happen - but show me the $$$. With the recently announced major expansion of Emory Hospital the Clifton Corridor is set to explode, but the traffic is beyond horrible at times over there.

As a side note, I LOVE the new restaurant General Muir there. Next wave Jewish deli with amazing food and a very friendly vibe. The place is already packed. I want more good deli all over town, actually.

SwimAtl, check this link out from CAP. This might be what you're looking for:

http://www.atlantadowntown.com/_files/docs/e-w-corridor-big-ideas.pdf

If not, go to CAP's website and poke around - you'll find it.

You also might want to reach out to Terminus, I'm sure he can probably point you in the right direction.

I agree that Emory Point is a nice development. Its even more exciting that Cousins is planning a mixed-use project in downtown Decatur. No plans have been filed yet, but it should be great infill project.

I saw that in the ABC Friday, and I agree.

Concerning downtown Decatur, do you know why the proposed development at Clairmont and Commerce where the Bank of America is fell through? I loved that proposal.

I read somewhere that they couldn't come an agreement with Bank of America. I heard that B of A wanted a drive through as a part of the new development but I'm not sure if that was the sticking point. Its the kind of well designed infill project that I'd love see all over the city.

Here's a screenshot of 867 Peachtree and the Viewpoint retail facade from the Midtown Patch video. Loudermilk's statement, "what we need is to really add some street presence and architectural detail" is music to my ears.

Two apartment towers planned for Buckhead

Quote:
Florida-based real estate company Crocker Partners LLC is proposing one of the largest apartment projects in Atlanta — 26-story and 19-story towers in Buckhead.

Crocker Partners filed a rezoning request with the city of Atlanta Feb. 12 for a 6.5-acre site next to the its 18-story Buckhead office tower known as Prominence. The site at Piedmont and Lenox roads lies at the western end of what’s commonly called the Buckhead Loop that crosses over Georgia 400.

Proton treatment center set to break ground

Quote:
After years in the making, the Georgia Proton Treatment Center will begin to take shape in Midtown later this month.

Crews will break ground on the state-of-the-art radiation therapy center, which will go on 2.3 acres at 615 Peachtree St., and could be completed by 2015. It is a joint venture including Emory University and Advanced Particle Therapy LLC of San Diego.

Are there any renderings of what the Proton center will look like from the North / Peachtree side?

I'm really excited about this! I think it will be a great neighbor to the Park and solidify Atlanta's chances of hosting the college football national semifinals and finals. Those would be some good money to town. (Also, if we get the downtown new dome, I think we're assured of being a host city for the football championships).

I can not believe they are building this crap on P'tree. What a waste. They should have just left the building that was there.
