I moved back to Regina from White City about 9-10 months ago. It is crazy out there. They really need to do something in a hurry with the 2 intersections at the #1 highway. When we first moved out there in 2005, we would almost never see a single car lined up to get on the #1. Now, there is sometimes a 10-20min wait just to get on the highway.

White City used to be a quiet place, where you could have giant yards and let the kids roam around. Now, all the new lots are "city" sized and it's making things crazy busy.

New in the last few years out there is a Subway, Tim Hortons, Dairy Queen, ...
Currently under construction is a Co-op, RCMP detatchment, Ramada Hotel with waterslides,

After that there will be minimal exterior construction, by the end of this month the building will look complete from the outside.

Grasslands

Any truth to the rumours that Marshalls and London Drugs are building new locations in the Grasslands?

The rumor has always been that London Drugs is leasing the old Canadian Tire building after the CT/Sportchek/Atmopshere/Mark'sWorkWearhouse megaplex opens in the Southland.

Haven't heard anything about Marshalls.

London Drugs is a good possibility in Grasslands. There is room for a 35-40,000 sq ft building there.

According to cmhc.ca, Regina had 269 housing starts in January. That's 99 more than Sasktoon (170) and 80 more than Winnipeg (189). We're off to another great year for construction in the city!

What's the plan with assimilating White City? I assume at some point we will officially absorb it, but does anyone know when/how?

Also, anyone know how far away we are from having Moose Jaw join the CMA?

White City is still a fair bit out of the city, it's gonna take well over a decade before any type of amalgamation occurs I think.

As for Moose Jaw, we'd need more than 50% of workers to commute into Regina as a starter, to which I don't think we're all that close. A fair amount, but definitely not enough. Perhaps with the development at the GTH and industrial corridor, it could shift things a bit.

Yes, London drugs will be built just West of the Walmart Supercentre. Marshalls is going to be West of Lowes, South of Cabelas

Source please?

Regardless, it will be nice to see some construction in the area west of Walmart/Golftown.

Although if London Drugs is in fact building in HL, it will beg the question, what will go in the soon-to-be former Canadian Tire space on south Albert?

As of July 1st. I think SpongeBob wanted to speculate how much it's grown in the seven months since then.

With regards with comparing Regina and Saskatoon CMAs, the figures are not exactly one-to-one by virtue of their geographical areas/number of towns/villages, etc:

Regina's CMA [226.300]; area is: 3408.28 sq km with 1 city; 12 towns/villages. (Plus RM folks.)

Saskatoon's CMA [284,000]; area is: 5214.52 sq km with now 3 cities; 16 towns/villages. (Plus RM folks.)

Saskatoon's CMA possesses 20.3% more people occupying 34.6% additional geographical area than Regina's does. If Regina also had 5200+ sq km of area to play with, the pop gap between the two CMAs would then be reduced.
