That for sale sign has been there since at least the summer. I think the house looking building to the left was sold?

the skinny tower (Bond) is actually proposed for the site next door (where the house is - 151 Willy Way).

I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but I've been looking for the answer for a while and haven't been able to find anything.

Does anyone know whats going on with the Civic Center Parkade (by the current police station)???
Its had a fence around it for a long time now and no work appears to be happening to it.

The news in recent months has basically said that it is beyond repair. Engineers inspected and the damage is worse than thought. So sounds like it will be torn down at some point in the future. Exactly when, I am not sure.

Katz was quoted on radio saying it will be torn down and either residance or offices will be built on site

it's not listed with a commercial real estate agent as opposed to privately with a sign attached to it.

I don't believe it can be torn down (at least yet) because the underground parkade below it is still very used (I believe mostly by police vehicles).

The amount of money it would cost the City to repair the parkade isn't worth it... The civies closed it down suddenly one day because it was determined that if it continued to have cars on the second and third floors it might fall in. They still use the underground parking for cop cars though. The main reason they don't want to close it down is that the underground is very secure.

Yeah I still see police vehicles going in and out of the underground part.

Thanks for all the replies. I really wanted to see that thing torn down and something better put in its place, hopefully its replaced by something good!

Whatever becomes of that site, it will have to be government run... The land is also part of the deal that is keeping the PSB land government owned.

Seems like whenever we get 1 nice thing (a finished Union Tower) we get something bad (a soon to be empty and rotting PSB)

Whats the condition of City Hall? It was built at the same time as the parkade and the PSB right? Is it in as dire need of repairs/demolition as the other 2?

It will have to be completely gutted and re-skinned but don't let the City's estimated budget be an indicator for how much it might cost. The City originally estimated it would cost $40 mil, then $60 mil and finally $80 mil before they threw in the towel and searched for a more cost/benefit sensitive project for the PSB. Hence, they chose to spend $200 mil to re-purpose the former downtown post office?????????????

......back to my first point, is that a large part of that cost to redo the PSB was the cost to decant the existing building, find temporary space for all departments for a couple of years and then re-populate the building - extremely costly.

Although it would be expensive to gut/fix/re-purpose the existing PSB i don't think the costs would be as high as the City's estimates.

They redid the City Hall buildings a few years ago.

Most buildings of that design of outer shell had to be redone in Winnipeg. Two prominent ones that come to mind were the Concert Hall and Convention Center.

I think there were also a few schools that had to be done.
