That's the entry to the old lounge/nightclub that the Holiday Inn had in the basement years ago. As far as I know its not being used for anything now.

There was a movie theater in the Convention Center on the 2nd floor that is now being used as a lecture theater.

Ha, I remember that theatre at the Convention Centre.
It was TERRIBLE.
Actually come to think of it, it was just like watching a movie in a classroom, so it's current use seems about right.

I have a really nice 7x9 photo somewhere of the Osborne Theatre, now the American Apparel in Osborne Village. It looked a lot nicer then.

LEED light pollution credit is just on credit you can go for and likely very hard to achieve on a building like this with so much light coming from the curtain walls. The whole building glows in the original artistic renderings ... that said I don't have an answer on the dimly lit spire except that I hope it lives up to the original vision.

Doing well AJ ... took a little forum vacation, spent some time fixing my 100 yr old house, and did a bit of a career change. Looking forward to being more involved again.

well if downtown had urban planning policies that dictate the skin and signage of such buildings such as the Dolarama on portage ave people would not have issues with the building. That Dolarama could use a little touch up. For crying out loud downtowns are suppose to be the postcard of our city where we want tourist to visit.

For example here is a 7/11 in Vancouvers downtown area shows the esthetics don't look so bad. There was not much done to make the building look good.
