That whole arear where the coliseum is is a terrible waste of valuable land. I would love to see the area develeved into some kind of entertainment centre.

It would be a great location for an entertainment centre especially since there is already a Tim Hortons there! Throw a parking garage in there and free up that massive parking lot they have now for a large addition onto the old Coliseum.
It would be great as an Entertainment Centre location, except for the people that moved into the suburbs around it, knowing there was a race track and the Ex there, and then complaining every time things get a little loud there.
If we want a proper entertainment centre area, the Loyalist Field on the North Side is looking like a better place than the Colliseum. (And it also has a Tim's all but on site. )
Not sure it was mentioned here, but I saw an article in the Gleaner last week about St. Mary's first nation and some of the developments they are pursuing. They mentioned an expansion to the entertainment centre/bingo hall and a hotel development (near the bingo hall). The entertainment centre expansion would make it more like a casino according to the article and they are seeking a hotel chain for the development.

The hotel wouldnt be that big. its in the middle of nowhere really. People want to be where all the action is.. Maybe if they buildt up that area more
Fredericton does not need anymore hotels, haha. Once they build the downtown one, they should stop for like, 10-15 years. The market is being flooded....
While the room market may be flooded, a hotel at St Mary's does make a little bit of sense. It would expand their offerings for tour groups by letting them stay 'on site', thus getting more cash out of them. They should also look into getting more dining options up that way too to go in that. It would make them a casino-lite, which I wouldn't mind to be honest. (I'd love a local place to play card games, but I doubt they'd go that far at this phase). I doubt the hotel would be used much beyond that otherwise; unless the race track moves out there or something similar. (Which isn't impossible granted)

Might also be convenient for people who are in town for hockey tournaments at the Willy O'Ree. I think it would be great to have a good hotel on the northside.
Which isn't close to St Mary's nor close to Willie O'Ree unless you really bend the definition of 'close'. The downtown hotels are closer than the old HoJo.
We have a lot of hotels on the southside, but almost none on the northside, so I do think this one could work well, especially if they can get a chain behind it.
I am with you on that one. After they get al the ones on the southside finished nobody will want to come spend the night on the northside just wont happen.

My first post! Fredericton is my hometown but I live in Calgary now so I frequently check in on this thread to keep up with the goings-on. As someone who no longer lives in the Fredericton area it would be nice to see more pictures

I wouldn't be so sure. St. Mary's attracts a huge number of people that literally come by the busload. If they did expand into a mini-casino and built a hotel I have no doubt that people would stay there.
