I've always thought Regina's post office was a great candidate. I imagine it is half empty anyway since the moved most processing to Winnipeg. It seems wrong to have semis coming into downtown and to have a lot full of delivery trucks on valuable land.

The big floor plates would make for an ideal office building. Hopefully the modernist styling could be refreshed and preserved.

The postal plant should be on the outskirts of town probably at the GTH where the semis have easy access to Winnipeg.

A couple of years ago, I heard that the new Post Office could be located at the airport. (As a low-rise, two-storey structure.) We'll see.

Me too. I have long thought that that whole strip from the Casino to Albert would be a prime development opportunity without having to knock down any existing structures. The Post Office Bldg lends itself to numerous possibilities. Hopefully, the city will also see the articles and speak to the Feds about a land swap, possibly at the GTH or airport, as these are the best suited sites for the Post Office. Having development on the north side of Sask. Drive might spur more user friendly development on the south side as well. At this point the whole street is a commercial graveyard and looks awful.

Jeez, I was looking at downtown from the northwest and that god awful retirement building on McIntyre REALLY needs to get some exterior work done. Can we all pool our money together to buy it and renovate it?!? It would also make a nice hotel.

Also, any suggestions as to where an ALT hotel would go if they were actually coming to Regina? Personally I wouldn't mind seeing them on Broad and 12th.

I really hope ALT decides to come here sooner than later. Lots of great places downtown for them and it seems like we never have a enough hotel rooms in the city.

SGI building would be cool but I think that will remain office space.

I thought it would have been a good idea for ALT to open up where the Royal Canadian Legion is, leaving the front fascia of the Legion for the front entrance of ALT (similar to what they are doing in Winnipeg). I was almost certain that was the announcement when the Legion said they had a new tenant , but obviously I was wrong.

Hamilton Street between Century Plaza and the Grenfell Tower might be nice. I don't know how difficult it would be to build there (it's not a very big lot....and I'm not certain who owns it...Harvard maybe?) but I think it would be a nice spot. Crave, Flip, Atlantis, Salt, CK Pizza, Siam, the old Soup Nutsy (can't remember what it's called now) are all under a block away with a bunch more within a one or two block radius (including Vic Park and the plaza) and maybe it could spur some more interesting development in the Grenfell Tower. If they did need more room the corner of Vic and Hamilton would work for me too.

I noticed the new Best Western on the east side is already finished and looks set to open. Also the steel is going up for the Ramada at Emerald Park. The Sheraton Fourpoints on Dewdney is proceeding very slowly.

The Four Points website has August as the opening date. Can't find info on the others.

I was just looking at google maps yesterday at the canada post location and thinking along similar lines. Except I was thinking the space beside the canada post building would be a good gateway park with pedestrian overpasses to the CP yards and across Sask drive to the cornwall centre....also thinking about someone elses comments about expanding Cornwall into the present parkade area and moving the parkade across the street.

Winnipeg moved their postal plant to the airport and vancouver is doing the same so there is apparently a benefit for Canada post to be close to an air facility. I didn't realize that Winnpeg snatched some of our postal sorting capacity - odd how most of the federal jobs that get allocated to the "prairie region" end up in winnipeg.

I think the P.O has tons of potential. As it stands it just contributes to the wasteland that is Sask Dr. Such a grand avenue with so many great addresses such as Casino Regina and the Show Lounge, Sasktel Head Office, Delta Hotel, Cornwall Centre. Lots of potential here...

Popped into the Artful Dodger the other day. What a great place. Just the kind of unique venue the City needs. The tapas were fantastic. I was too early for the live entertainment, but I imagine it has a great atmosphere.

Hopefully this is the start of a revivial of 11th Ave between Sask Drive and Broad. Several buildings have recently been renovated or constructed in the last two years. In the 50's this was a bustling commercial strip. It reminds me of the revival 20th St W. is seeing in Saskatoon.

The fat floor plates are no conducive to a hotel. Hotels have wide, narrow floor plates.

I think that idea got quashed as the guv didn't want to be seen as competing direclty with the private hotel industry. But hey, maybe a private company would step up if the building was put on the block..

There was some sort of drilling activity at the property at Diefenbaker Dr. and Pasqua St. last week. At one time they talked about having restaurants, hotels etc. at that site.Also how do you access the new Hawksberry (?) subdivision north of Argyle Park.

Hawkstone is only accessed from Rochdale Boulevard. If you didnt' think there was already enough traffic using the Rochdale/Pasqua St intersection...LOOK OUT once dozens and eventually hundreds of people are living in that neighbourhood with only one way in and out.

There seems to be no immediate plans to extend Argyle Street north. Seems odd doesn't it?

The downtown post office in Saskatoon was sold off a few years ago. The main floor and upper floors are used as office space.

What is interesting is how the basement (where all the sorting equipment was located at one point in time) was turned into a jazz club; obviously called "The Basement".
