Maybe this means Galchenyuk stays in Montreal for the season?

Habs' Max Pacioretty undergoes emergency appendectomy

Dear Oil fans:

This isn't going to be the year. But you should be in for some entertaining games nonetheless. I can already see where these kids are going in another 2-3 years. Scary.

I suspect the Flames and Oilers will battle for similar positioning, with neither making the playoffs. But I would put slightly higher odds on the Flames at this point. The new coach is exactly what this team needed to stop ruining otherwise talented players - Bouwmeester, where have you BEEN?? Hell, even Stajan has looked good this season at times.

I really wish we could play again before April. Very entertaining hockey game tonight, regardless of the outcome. Edmonton's D though.. wow. I think there's a major piece or two still missing.

And I'll once again give a thumbs up to the Edmonton fan base that lives in and visits Calgary. You guys are the best opposing team crowd, hands down. Plenty of noise (it pretty much rivals the home crowd), and you're for the most part classy and respectful. Unlike certain other teams' fans. Always a fun night at the 'Dome when the Oil come to town.

Agreed.....

The Edmonton/Calgary rivalry has evolved into more of a respectful situation in the last 5 years. Its actually fun to drink with some of the Calgary fans when they come to the games.

I dont think we will make the playoffs. It might be close, but i think your right 2 or 3 years will be a defining period for the Oil. Im sure glad the game is back.

P.s we won our Div 1 game tonight 4-0...undefeated this year so far

I definitely heard it on HNIC, after a few clearly audible go Oilers go, the Flames fans spoke up and it was go ???? go lol. Anyway, great game last night, love the speed the Flames are playing with now, great to see them not just grind it out in the corners all the time lol. Cervenka looked overwhelmed at first, but the guy showed some promise toward the end of the game and Hudler was solid, great addition to the team this year.

If the Oilers had a goalie as good as Kiprusoff between the pipes, they'd be a playoff team this year.

Yes, I truly believe that. You can criticize the defensemen and poor backchecking all you want, but if the Oilers had a guy who could bail them out when they made mistakes, the Oilers would be far tougher to play against.

It's been too one sided over the last few years, and since we haven't played in the playoffs for what, 20 years? a lot of the animosity is gone.

yeah. judging by these posts, it sounds like the battle of alberta has lost its fire. holding hands and singing kumbaya my lord at a hockey game just ain't right. the opposing hockey team should incite hatred and rage, like Vancouver does.

Goaltending was definitely a big difference last night. You can never count out a good defense though, then all you need is the goalie to make that initial save and the D clears the puck.

Yeah, Vancouver is the team to hate. Between Burrows' biting and public whining about the refs, to Kesler's (and Sedin's) ridiculous diving, to the glut of irritating knuckle-dragging bandwagoners who follow that team, they are far easier to dislike than the Oilers or Flames.

Yeah I'm sure the shit will hit the fan again when Edm and Calgary see each other in the playoffs or are battling for an 8th playoff spot. was impressed last night by Hudler and Cervenka, they will make a bigger impact on the Flames than I originally thought.
I think the Oilers and Flames rivalary will heat up this season. I see both teams fighting each other for the last playoff spot.... and with the last 3 BOAs in the last part of the season, it could get really intense. I'm all for that.

Is Justin Schultz for real? I know its early, but a rookie defensive man at 1.5 pts per game so far?
