Seen it for quite a while. Or are you just pointing to the website? Looks. . . goofy?

Almost the whole thing is pre-fab! It's built out of modules

Lots of these types are prefab. (ahem, venetian).

I have been told that prefab infill can be really good (faster build, cheaper to build) and of good quality, given the right application and planning.

I still think it is cheesy. But what do I know.

Smile predictions for skyline in light of arena news

So, with the arena agreement in place, any bets on how different Edmonton's skyline will be in five to 10 years? It would be great to see a new tallest and several other towers in the 140-150 metre range. Oh yes, and a new luxury hotel near the arena too!

Pre-fab must be a prairie thing. Don't see it in Vancouver proper here EVER, to my knowledge, but then I never get out to the burbs and maybe they do it out there.

Completely off topic. Alison Redford is going on air tonight to presumably talk about Alberta's budget contraints, making hard choices, due to lack of revenue from the energy sector. The irony is it will be televised on CTV and not CBC. CTV they have to pay whereas if they used CBC it would be free. If that is an example of a hard choice, perhaps they are going to hand over $114 million towards the arena.

Maybe it's because nobody watches CBC!
But if I remember correctly, televised addresses used to be on all 4 local stations, so Reddy is still saving some coin.

There is a professor at the UofA in the CivE department who is apparently recognized around the world as an expert in modular construction. During his classes he spent a lot of time discussing various projects he was currently working on with local (and international) developers to modulerize much of their construction.

One builder, Landmark I believe, has built a large facility in the city to construct modules for their home construction.

The reality is, modular construction is vastly superior to traditional methods.... at least when it comes to framed buildings. Much more efficient material use, no weather delays, etc.

Unfortunatly there is a very negative stigma associated with it. People need to realize it's the residents that make trailer parks unattractive, not the construction methods used to construct the buildings.

The address will be less than half the cost of Stelmach's last address.

The lowrise portions of the Edgewater project are being constructed with pre-assembled panels.

The cladding is being put on afterwards, but all the framing is pre-assembled.

Plus on CBC the opposition would have free rebutted time. On CTV they have to pay.

There is NOT 376 beds or even 50 rooms in the old motel.

CBC would have to give time to the opposition.
