Interesting that the lot between Bannatyne and McDermot is considered part of the 'Downtown Living Sector'. I think almost everyone agrees that would be a great lot to fill up.

(I also noted once that a tower on the south-east of that lot would fill in the gap above the Fairmont, right of the Richardson Building when you from the West towards the East on Portage)

More specifically it says 30% sold in first month. It has been pre-selling for sometime now, which means that it has far surpassed 30%.

EDIT: Vike, that was a really good discussion session/interview. It is very comforting that the feeling is mutual for many. That Linden Woods woman was very confusing on her point.

I never knew that fortress reality was planning to construct a building of such magnitude. They never once alluded to or suggested this project would be this large in scope. Is this one of 2 buildings their proposing or instead of having two moderately sized high rises they thought it be a better approach to just have 1 really tall building. Regardless i think this is a huge addition to the downtown and will have a huge impact on our skyline. Hopefully this one is approved and the company actually goes through with it without cancelling before it gets off the ground.

36 storeys is the taller of two building in the proposed development. The 36 storey would be built first.

I wish we could get actual height of these buildings and just how many floors, because some of the ones being built have high ceilings and are only 24 stories, but would still end up taller then anything we have with 1970 and 1980 height ceilings.

Kinda like how when you go to the supertall page they have the stories and the actual height.

Simple Math Should do it. For instance, Glasshouse advertises a 15' ceiling height for the First Floor, as well as 9' ceilings for each floor. Now add in the average thickness for the concrete, and you have a nice rough estimate for your height.

EDIT: Wiki has this definition, I don't think it is too far off the mark.

Downtown Winnipeg is centred around Portage Avenue and Main Street, and is bounded by the Assiniboine River on the south, Colony and Balmoral Streets on the west, Notre Dame Avenue, Princess Street, and Logan Avenue on the north, and the Red River on the east. It includes the Exchange District, Central Park, The Forks, and Winnipeg's Chinatown. The downtown area is roughly three square kilometres. Portage Avenue is the city's busiest thoroughfare. Winnipeg Square, the MTS Centre, Portage Place, and the flagship store of the Bay are all located on the downtown section of this street.
Cheers Riverman, thanks . And speedy recovery (wrt the surgery!)

3 km squared is very large and spread out for a downtown in a city the size of Winnipeg. I knew it was more spread out than Calgary's downtown, but its over twice the size, area-wise.

For comparison;

Ottawa downtown is about 1.25 km squared,
Calgary downtown is about 1.20-1.30 km squared
San Francisco downtown is about 1.50 km squared
Portland downtown is about 2.58 km squared
Vancouver downtown is about 3.75 km squared
Chicago downtown is about 4.09 km squared

If you told the average Winnipegger "I'm going downtown", they would probably think of the areas around Portage & Main or Cityplace as compared to, say, Higgins and Main.

I don't think too many people would consider HSC to be downtown. Central yes, but not downtown. Even the most generous interpretation of downtown's western boundaries probably ends at around Isabel/Balmoral.
Yeah that's more in line with what I call downtown, though I do resonate certain osbourne and St B portions with downtown as well, even if not officially its considered downtown. Really interesting. Thanks for this, cheers man! That, official area, is quite large. I know walking from Chinatown to the Forks then to the Legislative building is one heck of a hike.

Any word on how tall the proposed second one would be? (Winnipeg and its "second" towers...)

I think all should take a deep breath and calm down. We know for sure that ALT Hotel is being built and Heritage Landing. Pretty sure dCondos will be built as well. But until there's a media release with secure groundbreaking dates set, lets just wait it out. Anything can be canceled or delayed..... for years.
