Yes its been great the past 3 years with the reconstruction of the gates themselves, which closes the road every fall through spring.
To be honest, the wasted attempt at making a bike path all the way from one end to the other is great by birds hill and spring hill, but after that it is just a gravel path full of ruts, more of a service road for service vehicles and other trucks etc.
I always though a great idea on the SOUTH side was to build on the top of the berm, awsome views, never have to worry about flooding, and once a year usually you have a lake in front of your home or condo. Awhile back many U of M students came up with this same idea, some grand, and some doable, but either let it go back to the hay field it was ( when I was a kid we used to cut hay off it, some of the best hay to be honest ) Now it is weeds for the most part. And if not that, plant some trees on the south side, all they did was plant a small parcel by 59 hwy to the east of the bridge with about 1000 twigs that in 100 years may look ok, why not all of it????
As for the Gates , this is actually a great tourist attraction year round. And a great place for a young fella to take his gf on a first date

But I nice observation deck where now sits a very ugly set of stairs that can fit about 20 people would be nice, this is on the north side of the gates. Winnipeg needs to see this as a marvel of engineering as many places in the world envy us over it. We need to let people know we do not take it forgranted and for most of us, we do.
