I know there was talk of converting some of the old remand into some provincial government offices... presumably sheriffs and that type of thing

Either way, I don't think the remand building is going anywhere any time soon

Ok I' m back in town. There was talk of adding another pod to the new remand but that was shot down. The old remand will be used for over flow. I asked if there was going to be upgrades but the answer was there was no money. So if he is telling me the truth the beast stays.

I thought the new Remand was to hold over 2000 presumed innocent until proven guilty inmates? When the transfer occured was there not 800 to 900 at the old Remand! Why would the new Remand be full?

I was surprised to see a couple weeks ago the noodle noodle location completely flat no building. I don't remember hearing about any demolition and certainly don't feel like it has been that long since I've been in the area.

Definitely seems like a lot of action is quietly going down!! I'll be out of town for three months or so, I wonder if there will be a lot of change by the time I get back.

^not great architecturally no, but it replaces 2 one storey in the heart of Chinatown with a good amount of density and street level retail.

I can't imagine anything nicer being really viable for the area. If you put the fox or ultima in the same spot, no one is going to buy due to the surroundings. I see this as a bit of a stepping stone to nicer things coming for the area. Much like the quarters, someone has to make that first brave step, and I think this building is attempting to do that.

Most importantly, I think, is that the project will get more people living in that area. There is a lot of undeveloped land and business that close early in that part of the city, which just makes it desolate and a bit scary.

I hope it encourages more development in the McCaulay and Queen Mary Park neighborhoods. They could use more love.

There are renderings playing at the old CWB on jasper of the building and the new CWB space. It looks alright, but but badly needs a tower or two.

Here is a new redevelopment project by Beljan Developments that I'm currently involved with. The project involves a complete renovation to an existing office building (Solar Court) which is located on 124 Street and 103 Avenue. The project is proposing to introduce new office and retail space (partially below-grade). We are not altering the structure and floor plates as that is obviously cost prohibitive. This is why the retail is partially below grade. The new name for this building is Limelight on 124. The architect is Hodgson Schilf, who we think is one of the top design firms in the city.

Anyways, I'd be interested to get peoples thoughts on what we're proposing here.

^^ Looks OK. Do you have a "before" picture? Even though I go by there almost every day I can't picture what it looks like presently. The current building must not be very memorable.

I totally missed the sunken retail on the first glance. I like it. I just hope vagrants don't spit on me when I'm sitting outside having a beverage.

Very nice, Chris! I see potential for some heated patios there. I also see, with this reno, the potential for more life along that part of 124th. Is the YWCA still going to be located there?
