the beautiful thing about my system for future renders is that it takes only a short amount of time to get a couple of new buildings entered in, especially if they are basic massings like right now. Takes me a bit longer to remake them once the actual application is submitted and I redo them to proper dimensions though. another advantage is that I can take as many images from as many angles as I want. not the highest quality though as I am horrible with textures, so you are left with bright neon colours.

I simply cannot wait to see Toronto in another 10-12 years. Come 2025, Toronto is going to have hundreds of brand new skyscrapers over 500ft which will totally change the skyline again. Between North York, Etobicoke Lakeshore, Yonge St corridor up to Bloor, these areas will continue to condense to become one mega skyline. Very impressive.

Well there are 147 under construction right now.

Pretty sure it won't take 12 years for them to be completed. There will be 100's of new skyscrapers on The Toronto Skyline in 12 years, no doubt.

How tall are you and how much do you weigh? I'm 5'10" and 195 lbs. Don't talk to me about centimetres or kilos. We weren't taught that. Yet, I drive 100 km/h on the 401, and it's 250 km to the cottage. It's 3°C today, which is about 37.5°F.
I put 100 grams of sugar into a cake, and the car takes about 50 litres. Don't ask me about ounces, pints or quarts. No clue.
Don't blame me. We were taught this Metric/Imperial mishmash, and it's still perpetuated today.

Edit: Therefore, when I talk about skyscrapers, I'm more comfortable knowing what they are in feet.

Actually I use kilos and cm for my weight and height more than pounds and feet (though I understand both). I am 84 kilos and 186cm tall.

And when cooking all liquids here are expressed in milliliters.

Maybe we are just taught more metric out west?? For me towers have always been something discussed in meters, same with bridge lengths, tunnel lengths, tree heights, etc...

Hm, interesting. It might be more of an Ontario or Eastern Canada thing. I know that if you read about a crime in the papers here, the suspect is still described in feet, inches, and pounds, because that's what most folks understand.

In NS, most people still describe their body dimensions in imperial, but I consciously chose to change my own usage since I didn't feel it's appropriate to use a mismatch of systems and to perpetuate obsolete language. It took several months for me to get used to it though.

Yeah, for example any tree or plant book about BC gives dimensions in cm and meters. For example, Douglas Firs are the tallest trees in Canada, growing as tall as 100 meters (historically) but regularly reach 70 to 90 meters in height (lifted directly from my trees of coastal BC book).

Also all our new bridges being built are always expressed in km and meters for span lengths and widths (I am sure there is the odd publication in feet if you dig around hard enough, but for the most part it is metric, thats why I was surprised to see the new Windsor bridge being talked about in feet, not meters). For example, the new Port Mann was always advertised as 2.2 KM in length and its width in meters. As are road shoulder widths and lane widths.

For towers, feet does not mean anything to me, and I have to convert them to meters if mentioned in feet in the east to make sense of it.

As for describing suspects, they usually post both here (cm / feet and kilo / pounds) helps out the older generation.

The reason the windor bridge pier heights were being described in feet is because the information came from a American magazine. I'm sure it would say 275m if it was a Canadian publication.

And yes, the only time I use imperial is to describe my height and weight. Anything and everything else is metric though. I know many people who use Fahrenheit to measure water temperature though..

What do you use to do these? A diagram like yours is basically the type we need for St. John's to get a good vision of what ours could look like because at the moment we have several rumoured and proposed projects that we don't have renders for.

We have about 15 over 500 under construction right now and have been averaging four completions a year for the last three years. 2013 should see another four completions with 2014/2015 splitting 11.

12 years is also closer to 8 when you factor in construction time.

I use google sketchup and google earth. St. Johns might not be a good, as lots of current buildings are missing 3d models (unlike toronto), which got building maker data which means every building in the downtown core is 3D)
