You're comparing:
1. Regina or Saskatoon: One single city of about 200,000 with a single core surrounded by farmland.
2. St. John's: One single city of about 100,000 surrounded by another city, several towns, and suburban sprawl that adds up to about 200,000.
This creates the inaccurate impression that Regina or Saskatoon would feel about the same size as St. John's. They don't.
It's EXACTLY like comparing Mount Pearl and Conception Bay South and saying they're the same size. Sure, technically. But we all know they're not. Mount Pearl feels a hell of a lot bigger even though both communities have a near-identical population - because you're comparing apples and oranges. They're not the same type of community.
