Piles are indeed being driven. No pics as yet but I'll try in the next few days. If the weather allows.

I never noticed the duplicated buildings, but the moon... I don't think it ever would be in such a position!

You're correct about the moon's position. It, and the duplicated buildings, help to fill-in the peninsular side of downtown HRM to give King's Wharf a more urbanised surrounding.

The photo is certainly pretty. The duplicated 1801 Hollis actually gives us a rough impression of how the Alexander would seem in the skyline! And on that note: I really wish we'd hear an update about that...whether it be good news or bad... Just anything.

Ah, yes! The third, and mirrored, Maritime Centre, to the left of the uber big full moon. One of my favourites!

Thanks for the update. It is good to see the heavy equipment at work. I was beginning to wonder if construction had temporarily ceased since there weren't any progress pictures recently.

I was by here yesterday, there's not much activity for the next two buildings. The H-Piles are in, and a retaining wall for the road (which doesn't appear to be working all that well) is in place - so theoretically the foundations could start at anytime. The road beyond what is open now looks like it will need work as the excavation seems to have impacted it. Here is a poor quality photo I got yesterday before my camera died (the wall along the street is visible):

I have thought this as well. These buildings are more dwarfed than much of what's in Vancouver -- so there's still that Haligonian touch

A lot of the fill comes from various construction sites across HRM. Many areas of the city are built on Pyritic Slate, a sulfide bearing slate that is acidic and has to be disposed in select ways. The most economical method of neutralizing the acid is by dumping it in salt water. So King's Wharf and the Bedford Basin infill are two sites where this can be done. There is a tipping fee to dump on site, and that is usually put towards capping stone put on top of the slate. I think Nova Centre will have a lot of slate removed, and I believe the Bedford site has temporary stopped infill, so I would guess King's Wharf would get much of this.

The crane that was used on the first two buildings is now up at the Citadel Hotel

These are smaller than the Yaletown type condo towers in Vancouver, but they wouldn't be out of place south of False Creek around the Olympic Village area. I think that is the hottest area for new construction in Vancouver now and so far it looks nicer than many downtown neighbourhoods.

Has there been any notable progress on the Aqua Vista or the 4th building? Anybody know what the expected timeline is?

In the past, 2013 was supposed to be the year for construction of the main tower.

A lot of new development in Victoria looks like this as well. The main difference is the shape (a glass-clad admiralty place would be even more similar to the new Victoria style). Also very few buildings there are any taller than the 2 complete kings wharf buildings. The context is also a bit different from Van. This is basically the dominant (or at least most visible) architectural style in most of Vancouver's inner city, while at least for the foreseeable future kings wharf will really stand out and be more of a counterpoint to the traditional local vernacular, rather than being the local vernacular.

Looking at their website, the condo prices are certainly not cheap in comparison to a detached home. I wonder if they are holding out for top price and that is delaying sales? So far the Keelson is sold out, however the Anchorage and Aqua Vista both have several unsold units - http://kingswharf.ca/own/the-aqua-vista/ .
