It's great that they're employing co-generation for the Renaissance tower in the Quarters. We've looked into co-gen a lot in the last year, as long as the NG price stays low there is serious money to be saved. I think you'll see a lot more of this in Edmonton moving forward.

Apparently another second arson on 137th Avenue businesses. Looks like there is a few arsonists out there. This fire was a huge one, requiring 80 firefighters and steam trucks. Took out 8 businesses.

Mapping our winter wonderland
Readers weigh in on city's snowy gems

Elise Stolte
Edmonton Journal

Thursday, December 27, 2012

Edmonton is full of secret gems in the winter, from quiet Beaumaris Lake in the city's northeast, to riverside trails and the Narnia-style fountain in Glenora.

More than 110 Edmonton residents submitted descriptions of their favourite winter places for a Journal mapping project this fall. What emerged is a crowd-sourced guide to the city, full of tips from neighbour to neighbour on how to survive and thrive when the snow falls.

The map can be found at edmontonjournal.com/ wintermap , and will be available all winter to read and add to...

Does anybody remember that little asian restaurant that used to be on the west edge of petrolia mall...they had the perfect fries. We used to walk down their just about every lunch while in junior high.

That place is prime for some mid rise and townhomes and some neighbourhood scale commercial. That and 122st and 51ave just down the street..... two best infill sites in the city.

Bring the building to the street, set it back a bit on the east side for a patio, 3 storeys with main floor office and retail.

^^ about time. It will be nice to have some 'closure' to that and a decent injection of life into the area, even if not my taste in design.

The proposed building will accommodate equipment that controls the flow control gates in the shaft below. It is one part of a larger strategy to reduce untreated runoff and sewage flowing into the North Saskatchewan River.

Nope. The control building site is next to it.. and still has the giant shoring cylinder, cranes and temporary vents on it. The site I am referring to is where those houses used to be on Jasper

Then I stand corrected. The Control building will be quite dramatic in that location. Just need that previously proposed cylindrical Condo to book end that street.
