Route Announcement Rumour

There is rumour of a route announcement tomorrow.

My guess is New York, operated by either Delta or United. I will also put out that as a result we will see a reduction at either MSP or ORD.

Hopefully not ORD, but NYC would be a huge direct for YEG.

An airline does not add a route to cabotage its current routes, they would rather maintain and build current markets before adding new...

Delta has hubs at JFK and LGA. United has a hub at EWR. I would guess it would be United based on Star Alliance connections.

It does happen, WestJet reduced LAX when they added SFO, and United has reduced DEN with their IAH route - it is all part of adjusting their schedules to best utilize their fleet and when demand increases they add more capacity in terms of larger aircraft or more frequency - IAH is a good example of this.

Nothing sinister in that, so do not read more into my comments than them being simply comments/observations.

Come on OneWorld!

You would think that they would preface the announcement with a media invite, etc., and pump the hype until the new announcement is made. Marketing 101, and I didn't even take the course.

United decreased their DEN service because of seasonal adjustments and not right away. I am not as familar with with WS's skeds but I thought they only had 1x daily before anyways...do they fly to sfo from YEG???

When LA was first added it was daily, then they tried YEG-SFO, splitting it LAX 4X and SFO 3X. SFO lasted one season and LA returned to daily.

I'm gonna guess a direct flight to Perth, or perhaps Istanbul, with Buenos Aires running a close third. I guess New York would be *okay*.

Too bad, too, because I love SFO airport (prob my favorite) and the city has a heck of a lot to offer. Would love to see WS return that service... I'm not ginormous or anything but even I found Skywest's RJ's a little cramped after almost 3 hours on board. And the planes have 0 amenities on the inside. I think they come equipped with bathrooms, though....

CRJ200 bathrooms are the worst, and I'm not even a tall guy (5'11").

Very curious about the potential route announcement today, looking forward to finding out.

Here is the new route:

Newark – Edmonton eff 01MAY13 6 weekly
UA773 EWR2000 – 2312YEG JET x6
UA810 YEG0730 – 1400EWR JET x7

http://airlineroute.net/2012/12/19/ua-americas-s13/

This is great news and make a trip to New York much easier with the arrival and departure times. These timings are perfect. You don't need to connect anywhere and don't waste a whole day getting to and from the New York Area. I plan to use this route in 2013.

That is great news and yes, a very solid win for YEG.

One more Euro destination such as FRA and we could likely say that YEG is finally where it should be.

Congrats YEG.
