[QUOTE=simms3_redux;5936662]Thanks Kenn!

Folks,

I am moving to CA (SF) in a matter of weeks and I just wanted to say as great as SF is in almost all respects, I will truly miss ATL <3. I think times are *just now* getting really exciting for Atlanta and I will miss being in the thick of the transformation. SF is "already there" and so it's simply a matter of enjoying the city and trying not to overpay on your rent, but Atlanta offers a lot as it is and for those of us in real estate is a fun city to work in as we're trying to take Atlanta "there".

Sorry to see you leave; hopefully you will still post occasionally. Enjoyed your contributions. Good luck in SF - great place, but $$$. Enjoy

People have complained on this forum about the two colors, but it just helps emphasize that there are two hotels there.

Still, there is much to be improved about Atlanta. The fact that we are slowly putting together the MMPT (akin to a smaller Transbay Terminal going up right now in SOMA) and it won't include Amtrak is but one of the many setbacks that Atlanta faces. The TSPLOST was another. Novare's pillage of the Midtown cityscape with its massive ugly garages is yet another. The influence of inexperienced, conservative suburban dwellers on the city is still present in almost every facet.

I am confident that things will continue to get better each year and that someday Atlanta will truly be a progressive urban city with the will to have a thriving 24/7 cosmopolitan core (hey at least you can take to the bank that the nightlife in Atl is actually better than in most of CA as bars shut down early and the gay "scene" is a million times larger than SF's, and more attractive).
Ahhhh, man! Hate to see you go, but very happy for you personally at the same time. Soak it all up, you'll absolutely expand your horizons in every possible way in both your career and your personal experiences. It's an absolutely magical region, in more ways than one. Take advantage of the cheap airfares up and down the coast, and to Hawaii too. And please explore the day trip possibilities from the City - you won't regret any of them.

Your contributions here have been beyond wonderful in keeping us all up on the latest in the commercial real estate world. The best of luck to you!

Amtrak, Greyhound could be part of 17th and Northside multimodal site

Atlanta developer Carter is among the real estate companies vying for a piece of a 12.5-acre property near Atlantic Station that could involve new terminals for Amtrak and Greyhound.

Carter has submitted proposals to the State Road and Tollway Authority to develop the transit-oriented project.

The Authority owns the site at 17th Street and Northside Drive by IKEA and the Norfolk Southern Corp. rail line and across from the Atlanta Water Works. Amtrak has chosen the property to contain a facility that would replace its historic Peachtree Street station, according to marketing materials for the site involving the authority, the real estate company Lionstone Group LLC, and a local commercial real estate brokerage.

The latest wrinkle is the possibility of a new Greyhound Lines Inc. terminal on the site, according to people familiar with the plans.

The state is also marketing the adjacent parcel Northside and 17th Street that could eventually contain new retail and apartments. Together, both parcels would form a more than 12-acre mixed-use, transit-oriented development between Midtown’s office towers on Peachtree, Atlantic Station and the emerging retail districts along Northside and Howell Mill, known as the Westside. It would also join other nearby projects in the works, including Pollack Shores Real Estate Group’s apartment development at 16th and Mecaslin.

This better not impact the bus terminal at the downtown mutlimodal project. It makes a *lot* more sense to have it there where it's accessible via MARTA. Of course it would have made sense for Amtrak to be based out of that station as well....

not to be pessimistic, spoiler I'm about to say something pessimistic.
But you cant bank on a project as in the downtown project that has been in the works for 20 years and still hasn't broken ground or had any large funding put in writing.

movement at the former No Mas site in West Midtown...

Hey Forum Folks!

Driving on Huff today, I noticed that bulldozers were out in full effect.

The old school (the hexagons, right?) is gone...totally razed.

And, the old No Mas site has been plowed, too.

I'm confused as to why they moved the Homewood Suites sign onto the Hilton Garden Inn half.

FYI - Here is the rest of the article...

The project is nowhere close to as large as downtown’s Gulch, nor is it intended as an alternative to the 120-acre site near the Georgia Dome, CNN Center and Philips Arena. It would be anchored by a multimodal passenger terminal. The Gulch is estimated to add almost 6 million square feet of office, retail and residential space.

It was recently added to a national list of infrastructure projects to be expedited through federal environmental review and permitting.

1071 Howell Mill Road

I noticed a "SOLD" sign on 1071 Howell Mill Road today (The Sunlow building across from West Egg). Here is a Development Concept I dug up for a small four story office space on the site.

Not the most exciting thing around, but as a long time Westside resident (back when White Provisions was a U-Haul space and Chow Baby was the only restaurant option) I love watching this area grow up around me.

Oh... and the crane for Elan Westside (14th and Howell Mill) is up and moving.

So, I'm quoting myself here... I just drove by the Foster st./ Huff Rd. site, and a Walton Construction sign is up...and they have been moving dirt. It would be great to see their development go up there...http://www.waltoncommunities.com/about-us/coming-soon

Bingo. I want a multimodal station with all the "modes"

And I want 10,000 taxis and the streetcar going there too!

That Howell Mill building looks amazing. Would really fit in well in the neighborhood.

I actually like the look of this building. It's different from the usual stuff going up around Atlanta these days.
