FROM
Allison Lampert from The Gazette Blog:

Looks like the Tour des Canadiens might be getting taller.

Developers of the 48-storey condo tower near Montreal’s Bell Centre are looking to add extra floors now that the estimated 500 unit project is virtually sold out, I hear.

Sales of the condo project associated with the Habs blew away the expectations of its developers, Canderel and Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd.

Buyers in the project include a mix of parents buying condos for their university-aged children, aging boomers looking for a place to downsize upon delivery in 2016, non-Montrealers looking for a pied à terre in the city - and of course, investors looking to rent their units, I’m told. Unlike the situation at several projects in downtown Toronto, speculation in the project – where buyers flip their units for a profit as soon as the project is completed - is at a minimum.

Haven’t yet gotten a call back from Canderel, but a spokesperson for Ville Marie confirmed that the downtown borough is currently studying a new permit request for the project. The Tour des Canadiens is authorized to go as tall as 61 storeys.

Just as shity as the parking lot you call a podium on Tour des Canadians.

Gibbroni PM'd me and told me how much he's looking forward to this Spandrel Monstrosity.

He's getting all giddy.

This a forum. We discuss buildings. Sometimes we don't like what we see and we say it. So grow a thicker skin my friend.

As for Tour des Canadiens, the podium is shitty also. But that will never make the other one better.

I certainly hope you're not equating the two. I have never, at any time I've been on the forum, heard Gib/HFM say anything but snarky, insulting, or condescending things about any aspect of Toronto. That is completely different than simply criticising an architectural proposal, even if you suspect bias in his motives.

They've become to use to these nice gentle Torontians not hitting back.

No more apologizing for Toronto. Not from me anyway.

Kind spirited or Mean spirited. I'll call'em out one time.

If you want to call out Harbour Plaza, call out your ridiculously ugly tower by the Arena too.

Fair is, as Fair does.

You're such a child, really. This is a forum my dear fellow, not your habitual playground.

I'm from Toronto and I think Harbour Plaza sucks too. People are allowed to have an opinion wherever they're from (of course, that includes you being allowed to criticize buildings in Montreal too - but doing so out of "revenge" is just silly).

Gibbroni is a troll, Martin is not.

Think what you must.

My thick skin doesn't allow me to give a damn.

I'm gonna tell you what I really feel.

How in the hell do you get excited about an 8 level Fort Knox Bunker in the middle of town.

Its one thing altogether to have a 4 level Bunker between two highway offramps.

Martin can start with his own backyard first.

I'm the Toronto Gibbroni! Yeah!

You realize that most of the Montreal forumers seem to find him to be an embarrassment to their city right? Just thought I'd point that before you start acting like that...

How am I gonna get banned calling out a project?

Nothing here is personal, just project vs. project.

Harbour Plaza vs Tour Des Canadiens.

4 level Bunker in the middle of a Highway offramp vs. 8 level Bunker in the middle of Town.

You guys need to get thicker skin, this is a Forum.

OK. Dylan for you I'll settle down.

Anyways, Time for Top 10 Tallest Construction Updates.

At least I won't have to worry about trolls this weekend.
