My somewhat educated guess is that it is not the Fortress development. I can't say much more right now, but it was said to me quite matter-of-factly in a recent conversation with a good source.

I still think Fortress has secured the surface lots on Graham between Smith and Graham. They confirmed the announcement will not occur until the new year and this would also line-up with the closing of the St Regis deal with CentreVenture. It could also explain the retracted comments that the Fortress project was in the SHED as the lots are one block east of the SHED.

On the front of another rumor -- Target Canada is sponsoring a free night as the Red River Ex light thing tomorrow. My wife quickly commented that she thought it was Target trying to make nice with their neighbours. Seems to further back the thinking that Target is opening in Westport Festival.

Finally, asked a couple days ago -- anyone know what is up at 3500 Portage Ave (former Rogers Video). There is definitely work taking place but no clear sign what is happening.

Although you are probably right about the office tower part, I do recall a few months back (in April) that Winnipeg acquiring a World Trade Centre license would create some form of demand for new office space, so perhaps this "rumor" may have something to do with it?

I can't see Winnipeg's WTC needing more than a floor or two of an office building. It'd be a pretty small operation. There's lots of space currently available downtown so I doubt the WTC would be a driver for new building.

I completely agree. I just don't think the demand exists for a new office tower unless a company is planning on relocating here. Last I heard about the parking lot we're talking about (416 Main Street), Asper Tower Inc. owned it and was "actively seeking" different proposals on how to use the lot. Not much info since though.

Yeah, unless there is someone looking for a bunch of space we don't know about, it seems like an odd time to develop that spot. I think residential would do okay there, though.

The existing structure would be rebuilt to serve as the flyover of 59. But 101 would go OVER the eastbound to northbound ramp and OVER 59. In total there would be 7 bridges.

I guess that makes sense so that there aren't any vehicle height restrictions on that section of 101.

that parcel north of 201 portage is massive and could be subdivided into 3 parcels easily. That rumour has my mind going right now, i hate that parking lot even though it has become my late night parking spot on weekends. I love how that parcel has access through the back from Albert street. Means whatever development goes there could front right onto portage without having to be interrupted by a traffic lane from portage. Now you guys have got me going, going to have to sketch another plan now.....and during exam time to....
