I agree that it's a pretty big decrease in service. I don't know what the timings will be like, but would a faster bus directly down Lougheed to Braid and a transfer to the rerouted #159 take significantly more time?

Comparison of
peak hour trip time from Coquitlam Station to Planet Ice:
Currently with 177: 17 minutes
Est. time via Port Coquitlam (160->159): 51 minutes (13 minutes same-stop transfer)
Est. time via Maillardville (169->177): 46 minutes (15 minutes cross-street transfer)
Est. time via 152 and walk 2.2km: 40 minutes
Even if they adjust the transfer to make it as tight as possible, the quickest alternative is still about double the current trip time and maybe only 5 minutes faster than the walking option.
And then there are other trips like Coquitlam Stn - Boulevard Casino, or Mary Hill - Silver City (Schoolhouse) that face similar increase in travel time like this.
I did talk to the planners during the open house today about this, and it does make me feel like they've overlooked this connectivity issue. How they came up with the change is something similar to..
Lougheed (159) - low demand
United (177) - high demand
Riverview (177) - low demand
Mary Hill (159) - high demand
And the decision would be dropping both low demand portions, connect the two high demand portions together, and inadvertently created this ~8km long transit barrier on Hwy 1/Coquitlam River between Dewdney Trunk Road and King Edward St. Now that I mentioned it, seems like I got at least one planner thinking about this...
I don't know, maybe I'm just worried too much, as these changes would not affect my commute. But I just can't imagine there's no one work at the United Blvd area and live in Coquitlam while there is high demand from SkyTrain (other regions). Anyways, at leave I've done my part, so lets see what they come up with...
PS. The additional stop for 169 mentioned would be at Colony Farm.
