I know the AJC just hemorrhages money. Maybe they have some money making online ventures. EDIT: I suppose AutoTrader brings in some money.

It is unreal that they are in Dunwoody.

They are in the process of consolidating a few of their business units & employees into this "central" location. It's a nice campus with great views of the entire ATL skyline and the mountains. The have installed a solar canopy on the roof car of the parking deck. They are equipped with AC ports where employees can plug their EV's in.

IMO at least it's a new project that keeps the ball rolling. These days I'll take a tall building in any of Metro ATL's quasi urban cores. I say build now, build here, just BUILD!

Yes, it looked amazing.............

Anyone know what is going in at the old Outwrite location? Ran by today and noticed construction building up the front to almost be 2-story.

While it would have been nice if this was going up in the core, Perimeter Center isn't going anywhere. Projects like this are increasing the urbanity of one of the best Edge Cities in the U.S., in my opinion. I say bring it on, and keep increasing the critical mass out there. It's only getting better...

A little summary of the new apartment projects in O4W and Inman Park. Didn't know about the new apartments at 99 Krog St. Have we reached the peak in new apartment building in that area?

This is odd. An old office building in Buckhead being converted to apartments.

Here's the run down:

Development Proposed # Of Apartment Units
AMLI at Ponce Park 305
The Bohemian 276
Elizabeth Street 200
Ponce City Market 200
99 Krog St. (former Tyler Perry Studios) 50
Perennial Project Next To The Masquerade 228

TOTAL PROPOSED UNITS 1259

I wasn't aware PCM was going to have apartments (I thought just condos) and I hadn't heard anything about the 99 Krog St. apartments either. As Chris mentions, and the article, they wonder if the area can sustain all these apartments. I think it can, and it'll drive prices down, but from what I gather from Simms in his other posts, the prices new units are renting at are very high as is, so I assume having these new units come into the market will just sort of move things towards the historical price point. Just a thought. Also, maybe we see some of these, like 99 Krog St., being condos instead of apartments?

I think OFW/Inman Park area still has a lot of momentum and are definitely still one of the it spots to live. But with all the other apartments going up in Midtown and Buckhead I'm just wondering who is going to fill them all? Hopefully as you said the prices will go down as supply starts to outweigh demand. Maybe it will draw people intown that were previously looking to rent in Sandy Springs or Dunwoody.

I'm also surprised by all the apartment developments in Buckhead. Buckhead just feels like it's time has come and gone. All the interesting things are happening in Midtown or OFW/Inman Park. Maybe I've just grown out of Buckhead myself and prefer to ride by bicycle than drive my car.

To answer your question about who is going to fill all these units, I think its a combination of continued population growth for the region, people perhaps moving from OTP locations, and the continued influx of young professionals. For example, my youngest sibling is moving to Atlanta from college for her job downtown. We grew up in a traditional OTP neighborhood as did most her friends from college, but most of her friends all want to live in town (as opposed to the areas they grew up and are most familiar with). Now, I know that's just one example, but I think the percentage of recent graduates who are moving in town is a lot higher than say what it was 10-20 years ago.

I agree that Gen Y/X and young professionals have led the charge with re-populating our cities. I have read many fascinating articles on the subject. But what makes a city like Seattle so popular for our generation is the abundance of Tech jobs. Atlanta has a ton of them too, but the vast majority are in the northern suburbs. I know...I'm in the Tech field, live in town (OFW) and work in Johns Creek. I hope Atlanta can start to attract more Tech companies to startup or re-locate in the city core and not the suburbs. If not I think many your professionals in the Tech field will not put up with the drive like I have and just live close to work in the burbs.

Lots of new action you can see at the repositioned webcam at Ponce City Market. You can now see construction progress of the AMLI Phase II apartments across the street.

I understand...I live in Midtown and work in Alpharetta. As far as all the apartments going up Buckhead, you have to remember the convenience of Ga. 400, the shopping is still overall the best Atlanta has to offer, there are a plethora of restaurants, and its technically an extremely pretty and well kept area. Especially when you look at other sub districts in the city.
