Not quite. The gauge for James Avenue is in a small green metal shed attached to the Pump House (or Pumping Station). It used to bring in water from the red river for fire suppression.

The Harbour Master Building, I'm pretty sure, used to bring in water for the Amy Street Steam Plant.

The RFP from a few years back is still online and it describes water from the river as 'coolant.' Interesting. The equipment was removed when the steam plant was demolished twenty odd years ago. There's no relationship between the two buildings.

Did you have a chance to go into Ghiradellis chocolate it is pretty close to Boudin up from the pier? This would be a great idea for the Forks and be a great anchor along with CMHR at the north end of the site.

No, never made it there. I didn't do enough "touristy stuff", too busy being a corporate boy and attending my conference.

-- those nasty conference obligations always get in the way.
Another idea for the Forks would be a Brew Pub with a short tour/tasting session... theres nothing wrong with making the whole area a destination for activities, all clustered together, so even in wintertime, its not a big deal to walk around and between them.

There have been a couple of attempts at brew pubs in Winnipeg that have failed and that's a big investment to flush. Not enough of a market here for good beer IMO. Everyone seems to want Bud Light.

Sure but half pints avoids downtown and seems to have no interest in a brew pub unfortunately.

The Lord & Taylor rumor has been around the block a few times now. It has its origins in the company that currently owns L&T buying out HBC. I am not sure how credible the rumor is.

I thought Lord and Taylor owned Hbc? You can get some of their products there now. Can't keep track of the ownership anymore.
