Best Buy would certainly turn my crank a lot more than Rona would, that's for damn sure!

Ashverd unfortunately is extremely closed mouthed about this development, so no, there is no good source of information available.

One of the reasons I don't think this will be a Rona is because Mapleton seems more focussed on fashions, home decor and lifestyles (eg Golf Town, Banana Republic, Bombay Company) than on general retail. I don't think Rona would be a good fit for the development.

Stile is leaving it's current location in Champlain Place and is going to occupy the external pad that formerly was the Sears Flooring store.

No idea what is moving into the old Stile location, but Fossil might be a possibility (although previous reports had indicated Fossil was going to set up across the corridor from Sephora). Another possibility would be l'Occitaine en Provence, which is also planning a Champlain Place store.

It should be noted that the store locator on the l'Occitaine website already lists a Champlain Place location.

Some people (well at least one) on the forum have expressed doubt about the Tag store at the Mapleton Centre actually opening.

The building permits report in the T&T today mentions a $550k permit for interior fit-up for the Tag store. This should remove all doubt.

Wow this is big. Champlain Place will now be the only Cadillac Fairview property in Atlantic Canada, Regent Mall in Fredericton and McAllister Place in SJ is being sold to Primaris Retail REIT for 317.6 millions $. CF said they have no intention to sell Champlain. This company is nowhere near the caliber of CF on any levels. CF does have many prestigious & high profile properties, while REIT does not. I guess these two were not performing as they should?

Big vote of confidence in Champlain Place by CF!

FYI you shouldn't shorten the name to just REIT. There's tons of companies that are REITs.

I also think you guys shouldn't jump to any conclusions about this deal, like saying it's a vote of confidence in Champlain Place or that the other properties weren't performing well. There's a plethora of reasons for a company to sell off properties like this. Could be simple as wanting to free up some cash for expansions, or they were just made a really good offer that they would be foolish to turn down.

Going from the addition to the NB Stats thread, Champlain Place is pushing around 505M$/sqft while the other two malls were performing at 448 and 443 respectively.

From the Primaris release, adding Regent and McAllister to their portfolio puts those malls firmly in the middle of the pack property wise. (Regent is exactly in the middle, and only Place d'Orleans separates Regent and McAllister). Most of their properties are in that 450 range, so it does seem like a good fit.

CP's pulling in 505, which would place it 9th on the list, 5 slots above Regent. (and just behind Park Place; whereever that is; don't say next to Boardwalk. ). While it would fit in Primaris's portfolio, it would be one of the higher end properties. While I'm sure they would have loved to grab it, it was probably out of their price range compared to the other malls, for now at least. Who knows what the future will bring?

Hardly. It wasn't as if the other two properties were under-performing by any stretch of the imagination.

Congrats! I used to work in Champlain Place. It's a great mall. I still remember the Second Cup. That's where I was on 9/11.

...Perhaps, but with the list of higher end tenants coming in lately & more will come, performance per sq ft will increase accordingly.

Speaking of higher-end retail. Anyone know what are the odds of a Club Monaco opening up shop at Mapleton? It would fit in nicely with the Banana Republic.

It is a vote of confidence from CF...most of their properties push the 1,000$/sqft range...Being on the bottom end of a company like that is better than the middle of another...CF is able to draw high end tenants to CP because of relationships they have built up at bigger/higher end malls.

Does Club Monaco have any non-mall stores?

If we are going to play "guess the store" some more, could this possibly be Indigo blue?

Yes, they have an Outlet Store format, like in Mississauga.

Hmm, yes Indigo could be a possibility. I wonder how they are doing, considering that some of the US-chains like Borders and Barnes & Noble aren't doing so well lately.

The Chapters here is always busy when I go...sometimes hard to get a parking spot...so I'm sure they could both survive.

Indigo usually have large windows with natural light. At least a few in the front of the store. This is not it... Sorry.
I will second the comment regarding bookstores; with ebooks, ipads, amazon, ebay and so on, the retail industry (books) is not what it used to be and I believe that Indigo & Chapters are on the same boat as the rest of the them. Before you had bookstores and libraries, then you had book megastores (Chapters, B&N) and now it's paperless (ebooks) and internet purchases (amazon) ... I would not buy Chapters or B&N stocks-shares.

I don't really expect it to be Indigo either, I just was having some fun......

Indigo isn't any more outlandish than some of the other suggestions thrown out. I agree with mmmatt, the Chapters at Crystal Palace usually is quite crowded, but perhaps not to the point that Heather Reisman would open a second location in the city. There are only two Chapters in Halifax.

I'm still rooting that this might be Best Buy, but my confidence is beginning to waiver.

I might try and do an updated phototour of Mapleton this weekend.

All of a sudden Ashford has installed a whole whack of "opening soon" signs at the Mapleton offramp from Wheeler.

We can now say with certainty the following line-up at the Mapleton Centre:

Now Open:
- Golf Town
- Cleve's Source for Sport
- Ocean Trail Source for Adventure
- Moxie's Bar & Grill
- Carter's/OshKosh
- Bombay Company

Opening Soon:
- Wicker Emporium
- Banana Republic
- Bed, Bath & Beyond
- PetSmart
- Tag

Any store openings beyond those in this list are purely speculative. I would imagine there won't be any other openings until the late spring or early summer.

The list currently includes 11 stores and restaurants. The currently built structures in the development can hold 21 tenants. Building "A" has not been started yet, and there is no work being done on the pads between Moxie's and Golf Town. I would estimate that when this development is fully built out that there will be 28-30 tenants.

Store signage going up soon @ Mapleton Pwr Ctr?

Passed by Mapleton Power Center yesterday on my way to work and they had a HUUUGE crane lifting up framing for the store signs (building we are hoping will hold Best Buy).

I only got a quick pic from my phone at a distance, but will post it later when I get a chance. The scale of the crane was unlike anything I've seen at the site before... the crane arm for this thing must have easily been 60 or 100 feet in the air.

So now that the framing/background structure is up on the buildings, hopefully we won't have to wait too long for signage to go up (I say "hopefully" since Tag still haven't put signs on their store yet and the exterior's been done for several weeks now)
